The new product offers up to 5x leverage as offshore exchanges continue to dominate perpetual futures volume.

OG.com and Crypto.com have introduced crypto perpetual futures contracts designed for traders in the United States. The product trades continuously, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, mirroring the always-on nature of spot crypto markets.

Perpetual futures, often shortened to perpetuals, are derivative contracts that let traders speculate on an asset's price without an expiration date. They have become one of the most heavily traded instruments in crypto markets globally. Despite that popularity, US traders have historically had limited legal access to them domestically.

The new offering from OG.com and Crypto.com includes leverage of up to 5x, according to reporting on the launch. That figure is notably conservative compared to offshore platforms, where leverage limits often reach far higher multiples. The lower cap likely reflects the regulatory environment the product is being built to operate within.

Industry coverage of the launch has emphasized that offshore venues currently dominate global perpetuals trading. Platforms based outside the United States, often operating with lighter oversight, have captured the bulk of volume in this derivatives category. That dynamic has pushed some US-based traders toward offshore accounts, despite the legal and custody risks involved in doing so.

A regulated, US-facing alternative addresses a gap that has persisted for years. Market structure concerns, including custody practices and counterparty risk, have long been cited as reasons US regulators have been cautious about domestic perpetuals products. A compliant offering from established players like Crypto.com signals an attempt to bring this trading activity onshore under clearer rules.

Crypto.com has built out a broad suite of exchange, custody, and payment products over recent years, positioning itself as a major player in both retail and institutional crypto services. OG.com's involvement points to a partnership structure aimed at serving the US market specifically, where separate licensing and compliance frameworks often apply compared to the company's international operations.

The timing of the launch coincides with broader efforts across the crypto industry to formalize derivatives trading under US oversight. Regulatory clarity around crypto derivatives has been gradually improving, with various exchanges and clearinghouses pursuing approvals to offer similar products domestically. This launch adds to that trend, giving US traders a regulated venue for an instrument previously accessible mainly through offshore channels.

Market Impact

A regulated domestic perpetuals product could shift some trading volume away from offshore exchanges, where oversight and custody protections vary widely. If US traders find the Crypto.com and OG.com offering competitive on cost and reliability, it may reduce reliance on platforms operating outside US jurisdiction.

The lower leverage cap compared to offshore venues could limit immediate volume migration, since some traders specifically seek higher leverage abroad. Still, the launch represents a step toward bringing a major derivatives category under clearer US regulatory structure, which could influence how other exchanges approach similar products going forward.

The launch marks a notable attempt to bring crypto perpetual futures trading onshore for US users under regulatory oversight. Its longer-term impact will depend on adoption, leverage preferences, and how offshore competitors respond.
