Coinbase is giving retail customers in the European Economic Area until October 30 to withdraw 14 stablecoins and tokens it no longer supports. Any tokens left on the platform after that date will be converted to USDC automatically.
The move is tied to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets rules, <a href="https://help.coinbase.com/en/coinbase/other-topics/other/mica-restricted-stablecoins?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">known as MiCA</a>. The exchange says it can no longer support stablecoins whose issuers are not authorized under the framework.

The list includes some well-known names. Among them are Tether’s USDT, PayPal’s PYUSD, DAI, PAXG and WLFi’s USD1.
The other affected tokens are PAX, GUSD, GYEN, BUST, UST, RAI, MUSD, USDS and TGBP.
Users in the region can no longer buy, sell or convert any of these tokens on Coinbase. That function has already been switched off for all affected retail customers.
Retail users who want to keep their tokens have one option. They must send them to a supported external wallet before the deadline.
MiCA’s transitional period for stablecoin issuers ended on July 1, 2026. The period was not extended.
After that date, platforms operating in the EU had to stop supporting stablecoins from issuers without MiCA authorization. Coinbase holds its MiCA license through its Luxembourg entity.
Coinbase is not the only company to make this kind of change. Revolut also removed USDT for European users after the July deadline passed.

The deadline comes shortly after a separate regulatory action against the company. Last week, the Central Bank of Ireland fined Coinbase Ireland €3.25 million.
According to the regulator, the account meant to hold customer money separately fell short every day for about 18 months. At its largest, the shortfall reached €5.2 million.
Funds from 30 large clients were also mixed with Coinbase Inc.’s own money.
Coinbase Ireland handled e-money services. This is a different entity from Coinbase Luxembourg, which holds the MiCA license.
For now, European retail users face a short window. Customers holding any of the 14 listed tokens have until October 30 to move them off the platform.
After that date, Coinbase will convert any remaining balances of these tokens to USDC.
