The asset manager joins a Japan-based initiative connecting tokenized money market funds with the JPYSC stablecoin.

BlackRock has entered into a collaboration with SBI Holdings and Startale focused on connecting tokenized money market funds with JPYSC, a yen-pegged stablecoin, according to reports from CoinGape and Bitcoin.com News. The partnership brings one of the world’s largest asset managers into a Japan-centered effort to bridge traditional fund products with blockchain-based settlement tools.

SBI Holdings has operated as a close partner of Ripple for several years, making its involvement in this initiative noteworthy. The Japanese financial group has previously worked on digital asset custody, exchange services, and blockchain payment rails within Japan’s regulatory framework. Its continued activity in tokenization projects suggests an expanding role for the company in bridging institutional finance with digital asset infrastructure.

Startale, the third party named in the reports, has been developing blockchain infrastructure aimed at supporting tokenized financial products in Japan. Its participation points to a broader effort to build interoperable rails that can move value between tokenized fund shares and stablecoin settlement layers. JPYSC itself represents part of a wider trend of yen-denominated stablecoins emerging as Japan refines its regulatory approach to digital currencies.

Tokenized money market funds have drawn increasing attention from large financial institutions over the past two years. These products represent traditional short-term debt instruments, such as government securities, issued and tracked on blockchain networks. Linking such funds to a stablecoin allows for faster settlement and could enable more efficient transfers between fund shares and cash-equivalent digital tokens.

BlackRock has been active in tokenization efforts globally, including work on tokenized treasury products in other markets. Its entry into this Japan-focused initiative extends that strategy into a jurisdiction with an established legal framework for stablecoins and digital securities. Japan’s Financial Services Agency has implemented specific rules governing stablecoin issuance, giving companies like SBI Holdings and Startale a clearer operating environment than exists in some other countries.

Details on the structure of the collaboration, including timelines or specific product launches, were not included in the available reporting. Both source reports confirm BlackRock’s involvement alongside SBI Holdings and Startale, though the scope of each party’s role in the project was not fully outlined.

Market participants will likely watch for further details on JPYSC's adoption and whether other financial institutions join similar tokenized fund initiatives in Japan.

The collaboration adds another data point to the growing intersection between traditional asset management and blockchain-based settlement in Japan. Further announcements may clarify how tokenized fund products and JPYSC will interact in practice.
