Skydance&nbsp; introduced a voluntary employee <a href="https://coinpaper.com/37907/microsoft-offers-60-000-employees-buyouts-as-ai-spending-soars" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">buyout</a> program and a mandatory five-day return-to-office policy as it prepares for potential layoffs after its $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
The changes were announced on Oct. 26 in an internal memo from CEO David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz, just three weeks after the merger was completed on Oct. 6.
Skydance faces mounting pressure to reduce costs, manage approximately $80 billion in debt, and deliver billions of dollars in promised savings.Skydance Offers Buyouts Ahead of Expected Layoffs
Skydance is offering eligible employees a one-time opportunity to voluntarily leave the company in exchange for a separation package. <a href="https://coinpaper.com/37848/airbnb-ceo-brian-chesky-warns-these-2-types-of-workers-won-t-survive-ai" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Employees</a> who qualify will receive personalized offers outlining their compensation and the deadline for making a decision.
However, Skydance has not revealed just how many employees will qualify, how much the packages will cost, or how many <a href="https://coinpaper.com/37585/netflix-stock-plunges-23-as-layoffs-raise-stakes-for-q3-earnings" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">jobs</a> could ultimately be eliminated.
The combined company is expected to employ approximately 53,000 people. This raises serious concerns about widespread workforce reductions as management begins consolidating operations.
Although formal layoff numbers have not been announced, industry reports suggest hundreds or potentially thousands of positions could be eliminated during the integration.Five-Day Office Mandate Adds Pressure on Employees
In addition to the buyout program, Skydance announced that employees across the company will eventually be required to work from the office five days per week. The policy will be introduced gradually in different locations, which gives employees some time to adjust.
The announcement follows a similar mandate that was introduced at Paramount in 2025, which reportedly resulted in approximately 600 employees accepting voluntary buyouts.
The combination of buyouts and stricter office requirements could encourage more voluntary departures before restructuring takes place.Skydance Targets $6 Billion in Cost Savings
The workforce changes form part of Skydance's aggressive financial restructuring after the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition. The company is targeting at least $6 billion in annual cost savings within three years, with approximately $2 billion expected during the first year.
Management believes that most savings should come from technology integration, procurement efficiencies, and real estate consolidation rather than employee reductions. Nevertheless, workforce cuts are still a major concern.
According to the<a href="https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2026-10-26/skydance-offers-voluntary-buyouts-to-some-employees" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Los Angeles Times</a>, a report commissioned by Los Angeles County estimated that the merger could result in approximately 4,500 local job losses over three years.

Meanwhile, Skydance shares have been under a lot of pressure this year, which only makes it more difficult for executives to prove that the merger can deliver meaningful financial improvements.
