Kraken has listed ANTHROPICx perpetual futures, a pre-IPO derivative contract tied to Anthropic that offers traders up to 10x leverage on a private-company underlying. The instrument gives crypto-native traders directional exposure to one of the most closely watched AI companies ahead of any public offering, without requiring ownership of Anthropic equity.

The contract is structured as a perpetual future, meaning it carries no expiry date and positions can be rolled indefinitely. Kraken announced the listing via its official X account, labeling the product ANTHROPICx and placing it within the exchange's growing suite of tokenized and synthetic equity-adjacent instruments. Three points define the product at launch: Kraken originated the contract, it is classified as a pre-IPO perpetual future, and leverage is available up to 10x. Holding an ANTHROPICx position confers no shareholder rights, voting rights, or legal claim on Anthropic assets; the contract tracks a synthetic reference price, not a direct equity stake. Kraken has been expanding its derivatives and synthetic-asset offerings in parallel with its push into tokenized equities. The exchange's xStocks product line already allows traders to gain exposure to traditional equities through blockchain-native instruments, and the ANTHROPICx contract extends that logic to pre-IPO private-market names. Separately, Kraken's U.S.-focused affiliate Payward has been building out onchain perpetual futures infrastructure for U.S. clients, signaling a broader strategic commitment to the perpetuals segment.

How Pre-IPO Perpetual Futures and 10x Leverage Work

A perpetual future differs from a dated futures contract in one structural way: it never settles against a spot delivery date. Instead, the contract uses a funding rate mechanism, paid periodically between long and short holders, to keep the perpetual price anchored near the reference index. Traders can be long (profiting if the reference price rises) or short (profiting if it falls), and positions can be opened and closed at any time during market hours. For related coverage, see Initia USDC Bridge Reserve Fell to $63 During Oct. 23 Hack.
The pre-IPO designation means the underlying reference is a private company that has not yet listed on a public exchange. Because Anthropic shares do not trade on any registered venue, the reference price is derived from secondary private-market valuations, OTC transaction data, or an index compiled by the exchange. This introduces a material pricing uncertainty that does not exist with publicly traded underlyings, where a continuous lit-market price is available at all times.
Leverage of up to 10x means a trader controlling a $10,000 notional position can do so with as little as $1,000 in margin. A 10% adverse move in the reference price at full leverage would eliminate the entire margin balance, triggering liquidation. A 5% adverse move at 10x leverage produces a 50% loss on the margin posted, a nonlinear risk profile that differs sharply from holding a position without leverage.
Perpetual futures on crypto assets have generated significant aggregate liquidation volumes during volatile sessions; readers tracking current derivatives market stress across all perpetuals can monitor live data at Coinglass liquidations. The same liquidation mechanics apply to ANTHROPICx: if open interest concentrates heavily on one side and the reference price moves sharply, cascading liquidations can accelerate the move.

Key Risks Traders Should Assess Before Using ANTHROPICx

Leverage and liquidation risk rank first. At 10x, the liquidation threshold sits just below 10% of adverse price movement from the entry point. Traders using lower leverage multiples extend that buffer proportionally, but even at 2x a 45% adverse move triggers full liquidation. Margin management and position sizing relative to total portfolio value are the primary levers available to limit this exposure.
Reference-price opacity is a risk specific to pre-IPO instruments. Anthropic is a private company; its valuation is not continuously price-discovered on a public market. The ANTHROPICx reference index will reflect whatever methodology Kraken applies, which may lag or diverge from private fundraising rounds, secondary market transactions, or publicly available analyst estimates. Traders should review Kraken's current contract specification documentation to understand exactly how the reference price is constructed and updated before opening a position.
Funding rate exposure compounds risk in trending markets. If the majority of open interest sits on the long side, longs pay shorts a periodic funding rate; the reverse applies in a short-dominant market. Over a multi-day holding period, cumulative funding payments can erode or add to realized PnL independent of the directional move in the reference price. This dynamic is more pronounced in illiquid or one-sided markets, which pre-IPO instruments are more susceptible to than liquid, publicly traded perpetuals.
Regulatory and eligibility risk applies to any leveraged derivative. Product availability varies by jurisdiction; Kraken's platform terms and applicable local law determine whether a given user can access the contract. The pre-IPO structure may also attract additional regulatory scrutiny in certain markets where synthetic exposure to private-company equity is subject to securities rules. Traders should verify eligibility under their local regulatory framework before trading.
Liquidity risk is a practical constraint. At launch, a new perpetual contract for a private-market underlying may carry wide bid-ask spreads and thin order-book depth at higher clip sizes. Entering or exiting large positions in an illiquid market can result in significant slippage, particularly in fast-moving conditions. Monitoring open interest growth post-launch gives a proxy for liquidity depth; thin open interest relative to desired position size is a signal to trade smaller or wait for the market to mature.
The combination of pre-IPO reference-price opacity, 10x maximum leverage, and a new contract with uncertain initial liquidity creates a risk stack that is additive rather than independent. Each factor in isolation is manageable with standard position-sizing discipline; in combination, they warrant a conservative initial allocation and thorough review of Kraken's contract terms, margin schedule, and liquidation price calculator before the first trade is placed.
