XRP’s monthly chart is showing signs that demand attention. Crypto analyst JD (@jaydee_757) has flagged a rejection at the 21-month exponential moving average, accompanied by what he identifies as a bearish engulfing candle.

What the Chart Is Showing

The monthly chart JD shared on X places XRP’s current price action near a long-term ascending trendline that has held as support since 2020. Price recently surged toward the 21M EMA, then reversed sharply.
In JD’s analysis, the resulting candle forms a bearish engulfing pattern, in which the red candle’s real body completely engulfs the real body of the preceding green candle.
On a monthly timeframe, that kind of structure is not something traders typically dismiss.
JD flagged it plainly: “XRP just got REJECTED the 21M EMA w/ BEARISH ENGULFING CANDLE.”

A Technical Debate Follows

The pattern identification drew pushback on social media. Twitter user @AddisonJK noted that a bearish engulfing candle “must trade ABOVE the prior candle’s wick high, and CLOSE below the wick low.”
JD disagreed with that definition entirely. He clarified that the pattern “is based on the REAL BODY engulfing the previous candle’s real body, NOT the entire wick-to-wick range.”
JD then challenged @AddisonJK to test both definitions against historical data: “Check how many of the bearish engulfing candles you described fail, vs how many of the ones I described fail.”
@AddisonJK responded that his stricter criteria are “objectively more reliable as a technical indicator of price.” JD pushed back, telling him he was “confusing the definition of a bearish engulfing pattern with your own stricter confirmation criteria.”
The exchange highlights a genuine disagreement among technical analysts over what qualifies as a confirmed bearish engulfing signal.

The Macro View Stays Bullish

Despite the warning signal on the monthly chart, JD maintains a bullish macro position on XRP. He identified the grey/pink box on the chart as a dollar-cost averaging (DCA) zone, where he considers gradual accumulation suitable for long-term positioning. The short-term caution does not override his longer-term outlook on the asset.
JD confirmed a full technical update is coming after the monthly candle closes, available exclusively to his Patreon subscribers. He also noted he is limiting available Patreon slots as demand increases.
