Token Mergers Protocol is the name used here for a simple idea: two crypto projects join their tokens, their users, and their income into one system. The best recent example went live in October, 2026, when the crypto exchanges Aerodrome and Velodrome became a single platform called Aero.
People who search for this topic mostly want to know how token holders are treated, what happens to supply, and where the dangers are. The sections below cover all of that, with the aerodrome and velocodrome dealing as the main examples.
It matters because a merger changes who owns what, and the small print decides who comes out ahead.

What Is the Token Mergers Protocol, and Why Does It Exist?

In a token merger, two projects trade their old tokens for one new token at set rates, so the joined project can run one economy.
Projects often do this when two similar products fight over the same users and liquidity, which is the pool of money that makes trading smooth.
Aerodrome and Velodrome had the same design, built on the official migration page.
for liquidity providers and locked governance tokens, but they lived on different chains.
Aerodrome was strong on Base, and Velodrome was strong on OP Mainnet. Merging gave them one brand, one token, and a path to seven networks instead of two.

How Does the Token Mergers Protocol Process Actually Work?

The process runs in a clear order. First, the teams announce the conversion rates and a launch date.
Then holders of the old tokens upgrade through an exchange, which converts coins for people who keep them on the platform, but holders with their own wallets have to start the upgrade themselves, since it doesn’t happen on its own.
Locked governance positions convert too, and veAERO and veVELO both turn into a new staked position called sAERO.

What Are the Conversion Rates?

Rates decide how many new tokens each holder gets. One old AERO turns into one new AERO, while one VELO turns into about 0.044 new AERO.
The new supply goes 94.5% to the Aerodrome side and 5.5% to the Velodrome side, which matches how much revenue each one brought in over the 52 weeks before the team announced the deal.

A holder with 10,000 VELO gets 440 new AERO before network fees. The rate sets how many tokens arrive, not what they’re worth, since prices can move during a migration.

What Features Define the Aerodrome and Velodrome Model?

Aero launched on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, OP Mainnet, Ink, Arc, and Robinhood Chain. Public data trackers show those networks handled about $112 billion in exchange volume over 30 days, compared with $30.6 billion for Base and OP Mainnet together. Before the merger, Aerodrome’s pools handled about 52% of trading volume on Base, and Velodrome’s handled about 57% on OP Mainnet.
Revenue is the second feature. At launch, all exchange revenue goes to people who hold sAERO. A tool called Predictive Allocation lets holders stake AERO to point liquidity rewards at markets they expect to earn fees, which replaces the weekly reward votes used before. The project says it has no venture capital backing and no token sale, and it lists audits from two security firms.
Supply changes too, since VELO holders get a share of the new token. The launch details point to a maximum supply of about 2.127 billion AERO, up from about 2.01 billion before. Yearly inflation, which means new tokens added over time, is expected near 12%, with a ceiling of 20% at launch. Those are the project’s estimates, not promises.

Where Does Token Mergers Protocol Fit in Crypto?

The same idea works in other cases too:

Exchange mergers: two similar exchanges pool their liquidity and share one stream of revenue, like Aerodrome and Velodrome did.

Alliances: In March 2024, three AI projects, Fetch.ai, SingularityNET, and Ocean Protocol, proposed trading their tokens for one ASI token, with FET converting one to one.

Fewer tokens: a project with several tokens folds them into one, which makes supply easier to follow.

Wider reach: one token and one liquidity system can serve users on many networks instead of just a few.

What Risks Come With Token Mergers and Protocol Models?

Every merger has some operational risk. Conversions depend on smart contracts, correct wallet addresses, and enough gas, which is the fee paid to use a network, and one small mistake can delay a transfer or lose assets.
A bug in the contracts could hurt conversions, pools, or revenue payouts, and audits lower that risk without removing it. Predictive allocation is untested at launch, so it may not steer rewards the way the team hopes.
Market risk is real too. A rate fixes how many tokens arrive and says nothing about their price. New tokens from rewards can add selling pressure, and a bigger market doesn’t guarantee more trading, deeper liquidity, or stronger demand, especially against larger rivals like Uniswap. Finishing a migration is just a task completed, not proof of future performance.

Expert Take: What Should Readers Watch Next?

The stronger signal is the revenue split, because the 94.5% and 5.5% shares follow measured revenue instead of a number agreed in a room. Execution is the main worry, since seven networks need liquidity, rewards, and security at once.
Whether predictive allocation can steer rewards better than the old voting system is the biggest unknown, and only real trading data will answer it.
Readers should check the details themselves, since sources report the launch date a little differently. The official launch hub puts the go-live at 00:00 UTC on October 22, 2026. Rates, supply figures, and liquidity steps all belong on that checklist before any move.

Final Thoughts on Token Mergers Protocol and Token Merging

A token merger, like the Aerodrome and Velodrome deal, replaces two token economies with one through fixed rates, shared revenue, and a wider reach.
The revenue-based split and the seven-network launch stand out, while the untested reward tool and the need for real trading growth stay open questions. Readers should confirm the rates on official channels and weigh the risks before acting.
