Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) addressed concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency security on October 23, 2026, arguing that fears of AI breaking blockchain encryption are misplaced.
In a <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/cz_binance/status/2113462904435642556" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">post</a> on X, CZ noted that traditional internet protocols and banking networks rely on weaker encryption than Bitcoin. However, he warned that this does not make the crypto ecosystem immune to AI-driven attacks.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">
 Everyone worried about AI hacking crypto, but the internet and banking systems rely on weaker encryption.
 That said, AI doesn’t need to break Bitcoin’s cryptography to cause damage, leaked data already enables more phishing, social engineering, etc,
 Stay SAFU!

Hackers do not need to break blockchain encryption to steal funds. They can use AI to analyze leaked databases and create convincing phishing messages and social engineering scams at scale. These attacks target human behaviour, tricking users into revealing private keys or approving fraudulent transactions.
CZ also stressed that software is never entirely free of bugs, urging cryptocurrency holders to manage their security risks and “Stay SAFU.”

The immediate security threat is less about AI cracking cryptographic algorithms and more about its ability to manipulate users. Bitcoin uses elliptic-curve cryptography to secure transactions, making it computationally impractical for current AI systems to derive private keys from public addresses.
Crypto community member Sonofgrace <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/SOG_741/status/2113490937829626248" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">agreed</a> with CZ, arguing that AI makes phishing and scams more convincing without needing to break Bitcoin’s encryption. Sonofgrace advised users to protect their private keys, verify transaction details, and avoid trusting messages because they appear official.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">
 The biggest immediate threat isn’t AI breaking Bitcoin’s encryption, it’s AI making scams, phishing, and social engineering far more convincing and scalable. Protect your keys, verify everything, and never trust a message just because it looks legit.

However, the consequences of these attacks can be more severe in cryptocurrency than in traditional finance. Community member Wizard of Alt <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/Wizard_Of_Alt/status/2113465373966152016" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">pointed</a> out that banks can sometimes reverse fraudulent wire transfers, while confirmed Bitcoin transactions generally cannot be undone.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">
 @cz_binance banks can reverse a fraudulent wire, a signed bitcoin tx can’t be. same phishing success rate costs a lot more on this side of the fence

Without chargebacks or reliable recovery mechanisms, a successful phishing attack can result in permanent financial losses. This makes protecting wallet credentials and checking transaction approvals particularly important for crypto users.

<h3 id="span-style-font-weight-400-why-ai-hackers-target-people-instead-of-breaking-bitcoin-s-encryption-span">Why AI hackers target people instead of breaking Bitcoin’s encryption</h3>
Breaking Bitcoin’s encryption is far harder than tricking someone into handing over their crypto. Bitcoin uses SHA-256 for mining and elliptic-curve cryptography to secure private keys, making brute-force wallet attacks impractical with current technology.
Crypto commentator Oxveil extended this argument to target selection, suggesting that even if AI reaches Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), hackers might hesitate to attack state institutions such as the Federal Reserve because of the potential consequences of government retaliation. Oxveil contrasted this with potential targets such as Satoshi Nakamoto’s unspent Bitcoin holdings, the Ethereum Foundation, and Binance.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">
