A viral token tied to trader Kimchi collapsed within 48 hours as rug pull suspicions mounted

A token called KIMCHI, issued through the Pump.fun launchpad, crashed by approximately 95% after Pump.fun co-founder Alon deleted a social media repost tied to the project. The deletion appears to have stripped the token of a key source of visibility that had driven its earlier rally.

The episode unfolded quickly. According to reporting from crypto.news, the token's price collapse followed directly from Alon's decision to remove the repost, which had amplified attention around KIMCHI across crypto social media. Bitcoin.com News framed the same sequence of events around the trader behind the token, describing a rapid shift in public perception from rising Pump.fun personality to suspected rug pull operator.

Pump.fun has built its platform around allowing anyone to launch tokens quickly, often with minimal vetting. That structure has made it a popular venue for speculative, short-lived tokens tied to internet trends, memes, and individual traders' personal brands. It has also made the platform a recurring source of controversy when such tokens lose value abruptly.

The KIMCHI case illustrates how closely tied these tokens can be to the attention of a small number of influential accounts. A single repost from a figure as prominent as a Pump.fun co-founder can meaningfully boost a token's visibility and trading activity. Its removal can have the opposite effect just as fast.

It remains unclear from available reporting what specifically prompted Alon to delete the repost, or whether Pump.fun took any further action regarding the token. The two source reports describe the same core sequence, token crash following the deletion, but differ in how directly they characterize the trader Kimchi's role in the token's design or promotion.

The rug pull label being applied to the trader reflects community suspicion rather than a confirmed finding, based on the reporting reviewed. Such accusations are common in the aftermath of sudden token collapses on launchpads like Pump.fun, where creators often retain outsized control over liquidity and token supply in the early hours after launch.

Market Impact

The KIMCHI collapse adds to a pattern of rapid boom-and-bust cycles among tokens launched through Pump.fun and similar platforms. Traders who bought into the rally driven by the repost are likely to have suffered sharp losses once the price fell roughly 95%. The incident may renew scrutiny of how much influence individual promoters, including figures affiliated with the launchpad itself, can have over token valuations.

For the broader memecoin and launchpad sector, episodes like this tend to reinforce caution among newer traders about the risks tied to low-float, attention-driven tokens. They also keep pressure on platforms like Pump.fun to clarify what role, if any, insiders and co-founders should play in promoting individual listings.

The KIMCHI token's collapse highlights how quickly sentiment can shift on launchpad platforms built around social amplification. With the trader behind the project now facing rug pull accusations, further details may emerge as the situation develops.

Protos reports the collaboration stemmed from Pump.fun’s “Pill Your Friends” campaign, with co-founder Alon Cohen (full name now identified) having called Kim “the first ever example of a tra—” before the promotional post was pulled, and notes users have been left questioning whether Kim’s account had been hacked. Cryptopolitan adds specific figures: the token’s promotional post drove it to roughly a $15 million market cap within minutes on Thursday, before vanishing about 30 minutes later, at which point the coin’s losses deepened to more than 98%.
