Coinbase has launched a US midterm election dashboard, rolling out the feature to users across most states while explicitly excluding Michigan and Nevada from the initial availability window. The geographic carve-out places the two states outside access to the dashboard at launch, making state residency a determining factor in whether Coinbase users can interact with the new election-related product.

Coinbase Launches a US Midterm Election Dashboard

The Coinbase midterm election dashboard represents the exchange's direct entry into election-themed product offerings, a category that has drawn increasing scrutiny from state-level regulators across the United States. Coinbase confirmed the rollout as a US-facing feature, though the company has not made all states eligible on an identical basis, with Michigan and Nevada carved out from the launch. For related coverage, see Tokenized Coinbase Shares in Base DeFi Top $260M.

The dashboard sits within Coinbase's broader effort to engage its US user base around civic and political events, building on the exchange's established presence as one of the largest regulated crypto platforms operating under US jurisdiction. Coinbase's recent platform activity has included significant DeFi integrations, with tokenized Coinbase shares in Base DeFi surpassing $260 million, reflecting the company's wider push to deepen product layers for US-resident users.
Michigan and Nevada Are Excluded From the Rollout

Michigan and Nevada are named as the two states where the dashboard is unavailable at launch. Users registered in either state will not have access to the dashboard, as Coinbase has structured the rollout to omit these jurisdictions specifically. The exclusion applies from the initial launch date and does not carry a stated timeline for inclusion.

Michigan has maintained an active regulatory posture toward new financial and prediction-adjacent products. In March 2025, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued cease and desist letters to sports betting companies operating in ways the state determined were outside its licensing framework, signaling a willingness to act preemptively against platforms offering outcome-based financial products. While that enforcement action targeted sports betting operators and not Coinbase's election product specifically, it illustrates the enforcement environment Michigan has established for platforms offering products that touch on event outcomes and financial stakes.

Nevada, as the state with the most established legal framework for regulated wagering and financial prediction products, carries its own set of licensing requirements for any product that could be interpreted as intersecting with gambling or prediction markets under state law. The reasons Coinbase has excluded Nevada from the dashboard rollout have not been stated in confirmed reporting; users in Nevada should treat the exclusion as a confirmed access limitation without drawing conclusions about its cause.

What Users Should Check Before Accessing the Dashboard

Residents of all US states other than Michigan and Nevada should verify current eligibility directly through Coinbase's in-app messaging or official support documentation before treating access as guaranteed. The announcement of a multi-state rollout with at least two named exclusions does not confirm that every remaining state has identical, unrestricted access; additional state-specific conditions or eligibility criteria may apply that are not captured by the headline-level exclusion of Michigan and Nevada.

Coinbase users can confirm current product availability through the platform's official Help Center or by checking the dashboard feature directly within their Coinbase account. Geographic availability for Coinbase products has historically shifted as the company works through state-by-state licensing and legal review, as demonstrated by the exchange's approach to other features it has introduced selectively across US jurisdictions. Coinbase's compliance history includes actions such as halting BLAST trading with specific withdrawal deadlines, illustrating how the exchange manages product access changes within its US user base.

Michigan residents and Nevada residents specifically should not attempt to circumvent state-based access restrictions. Coinbase's geo-restrictions for licensed products are tied to account-level residency verification, not network-level location detection; attempting to misrepresent state residency to gain access to a restricted product carries account-level risk under Coinbase's terms of service.

Why State-Level Availability Matters for Coinbase Products

State-by-state availability differences on crypto platforms are not incidental; they reflect the patchwork of financial services licensing, money transmission law, and emerging prediction market regulation that varies significantly across US jurisdictions. A product available in 48 states but excluded from 2 creates a material access gap for users in those states, particularly when the excluded states include two with large, active Coinbase user populations.

Michigan's regulatory history with outcome-based financial products, as evidenced by the March 2025 attorney general enforcement action against sports betting operators, establishes a precedent that state authorities are prepared to act against platforms they determine are operating outside permitted boundaries. The cease and desist letters issued by Attorney General Nessel were directed at sports betting companies, not cryptocurrency exchanges or election dashboards, but the underlying principle that Michigan actively monitors and challenges unlicensed or non-compliant financial products in its jurisdiction is confirmed by that record.

Nevada's situation differs structurally. The state licenses and regulates prediction markets and event-based financial products under a framework administered by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, meaning any product that could be interpreted as intersecting with those categories requires explicit state authorization. Whether Coinbase's election dashboard falls under Nevada's regulated activity definitions is a legal determination that has not been publicly confirmed; the exclusion of Nevada from the launch is a fact, while the specific regulatory rationale is unconfirmed.

For builders and institutional users, state-level exclusions of this kind are a routine signal of where a product sits in its compliance maturity cycle. A launch that excludes two states suggests the legal review for those jurisdictions is either incomplete, pending additional licensing, or has determined that current regulatory conditions do not permit the product. None of these interpretations can be confirmed without a statement from Coinbase; what is confirmed is the access restriction itself.

Coinbase's Broader Platform Trajectory and This Dashboard's Context

Coinbase has expanded its US product surface significantly across 2025 and into 2026, including through its Base layer-2 network, which has become a venue for institutional-grade DeFi activity. The exchange's move into election-adjacent dashboards extends its civic engagement strategy, which has included voter registration features and political content integrations in prior election cycles. These moves position Coinbase as a platform that seeks to embed itself into major civic events, not merely serve as a trading venue.

The election dashboard launch also arrives against a backdrop of Coinbase's ongoing international compliance and fraud-prevention operations. The exchange has been involved in coordinated enforcement actions targeting financial fraud, with Coinbase and Binance participating in a West Africa anti-fraud operation aimed at freezing illicit funds, underscoring the exchange's stated commitment to operating within law enforcement frameworks across jurisdictions.

The selective rollout of the midterm election dashboard, while notable for the Michigan and Nevada exclusions, follows the pattern Coinbase has established for US product launches that carry regulatory complexity. Products requiring state-level legal clearance are introduced in available jurisdictions first, with excluded states added, modified, or permanently omitted depending on regulatory developments. Users in Michigan and Nevada who want access to the dashboard should monitor Coinbase's official product update channels for any change in eligibility status.

Coinbase US Midterm Election Dashboard FAQ

What did Coinbase launch?

Coinbase launched a US midterm election dashboard, a feature available to eligible users on the Coinbase platform. The dashboard is confirmed as a rollout targeting US residents, with state-based eligibility restrictions applied at launch.

Which states are excluded from the dashboard?

Michigan and Nevada are the two states confirmed as excluded from the Coinbase US midterm election dashboard rollout. Users registered in either state will not have access to the feature under the current availability terms. No other state exclusions have been confirmed in available reporting; however, users in all states are advised to verify their own eligibility through Coinbase's official support channels before assuming access.

Why are Michigan and Nevada excluded?

Coinbase has not issued a confirmed public statement specifying the exact legal or regulatory reasons for excluding Michigan and Nevada. Michigan has an active record of enforcing compliance requirements against financial and prediction-adjacent products, as documented in the March 2025 attorney general enforcement actions targeting unlicensed operators in the state. Nevada's specialized regulatory framework for licensed prediction and wagering products creates a distinct licensing environment. Both observations are contextual; the direct causal link between these regulatory environments and the dashboard exclusion is unconfirmed.

Where can users verify current availability?

Users should check availability directly within their Coinbase account interface or through the official Coinbase Help Center. Coinbase's in-product notifications and support documentation are the authoritative sources for current product eligibility by state. Third-party reporting, including this article, reflects the confirmed launch exclusions as of the announcement date; eligibility status may change as Coinbase completes any pending state-level reviews.

What should Michigan and Nevada users do?

Users in Michigan and Nevada should treat the current exclusion as a confirmed access restriction and monitor Coinbase's official update channels for any change in eligibility. The exclusion does not indicate a permanent bar; Coinbase has historically expanded product availability to initially excluded states as regulatory reviews conclude. No timeline for potential inclusion of Michigan or Nevada has been confirmed.
