Grayscale has opened in-kind transaction capability across 10 crypto assets, a structural shift that lets eligible investors move the underlying tokens directly into and out of Grayscale products rather than going through a cash-only process. The assets confirmed to be included span Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and Dogecoin, among others.

The announcement is notable because in-kind redemption and creation has long been a feature that institutional investors in traditional ETF markets take for granted. Bringing it to crypto products signals a maturation in how these vehicles are structured and accessed. According to reporting by CoinGape, the five named assets are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and Dogecoin, with five additional assets rounding out the total.
What In-Kind Transactions Actually Change

In a standard cash-based process, an investor looking to enter or exit a Grayscale product sells or buys the underlying crypto on the open market, then transacts in fiat. In-kind flips that: the investor deposits or withdraws the actual crypto tokens instead. The fund receives BTC, ETH, or SOL directly rather than the dollar equivalent.

That distinction matters operationally. Cash transactions require a liquidation step that introduces market timing risk and potential slippage. In-kind transactions bypass that step entirely, transferring the asset itself. For large institutional positions, the difference in execution quality can be significant.

The precise mechanics of Grayscale’s implementation, including eligibility requirements, minimum transaction sizes, settlement windows, and applicable fees, depend on Grayscale’s official product documentation. Investors should verify those terms directly before acting.

Which Assets Are In Scope

The five named assets confirmed by CoinGape are Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, and Dogecoin (DOGE). Five additional assets round out the total to 10, though their identities had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.

The inclusion of Solana and XRP is worth flagging. Both assets have seen growing institutional product activity in 2026. Solana, in particular, has been at the center of recent fund launches, with XRP approaching all-time highs alongside a Solana ETF launch earlier this year. XRP’s presence in an in-kind transaction framework suggests Grayscale is treating it as a first-tier institutional asset.

Dogecoin’s inclusion stands out as the most unconventional pick in the group. Its place alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum in an institutional transaction mechanism reflects how far the asset has moved from its meme coin origins in terms of product infrastructure, even if its fundamental utility case remains debated.

Grayscale’s Broader Product Push

This move fits a pattern of Grayscale expanding product access and structure. The firm has been actively broadening its reach into both DeFi and emerging asset classes, as seen in its partnership with Republic to expand access to DeFi and AI crypto funds. In-kind capability is a different lever, one that operates at the transaction mechanics level rather than the product selection level, but the direction is consistent.

The regulatory environment is also shifting. The CFTC’s open public comment period on crypto rulemaking signals that the framework governing these products is still being written. How in-kind transactions are treated under evolving rules is a variable that institutional participants will need to track closely.

What Investors Need to Verify

Before treating in-kind capability as a definitive operational advantage, investors should confirm several specifics directly from Grayscale’s published materials. Which specific products are enabled for in-kind transactions, not just which assets, is the first question. A given asset being named does not automatically mean every Grayscale product holding that asset supports the mechanism.

Participant eligibility is also not universal. In-kind transactions in fund structures typically require accredited or institutional investor status, minimum transaction thresholds, and pre-approved counterparty agreements. Settlement timing and custodial procedures add further complexity that varies by product.

For investors who regularly execute large entries or exits across multiple assets, understanding how crypto swap mechanisms route and settle in 2026 is useful background for evaluating how in-kind transactions fit into a broader execution strategy.

The full list of the remaining five assets has not been confirmed publicly. When Grayscale releases complete product documentation, the scope of this capability will become clearer. Will the other five assets include newer or more niche tokens, or will the list stick to established large-cap names? That answer will define just how broad this opening actually is.
