Blockchain security firm SlowMist has flagged a reported loss of $59.8K involving what it described as an Argent-style smart wallet system, according to a post attributed to the SlowMist team on X. The report raises questions about the security exposure that can come with programmable wallet architectures, though the firm has not publicly confirmed a root cause or identified the scope of affected users.

What SlowMist reported about the $59.8K loss

SlowMist, a firm that regularly monitors and discloses on-chain security incidents, posted details about a $59.8K loss tied to an Argent-style smart wallet system. The report attributes the loss to this specific wallet architecture without elaborating on whether the fault lies in the wallet software itself, a connected third-party integration, or an individual user's configuration. For related coverage, see 749 BTC Transferred From Coinbase to Unknown Wallet.

SlowMist attributed the loss to the smart wallet system framing rather than to a named vulnerability or exploit method. Absent further disclosure from the firm, the $59.8K figure represents the reported value of losses at the time of the incident rather than a confirmed, independently verified figure. For related coverage, see BlackRock-Associated Wallet Sends $143M in BTC, ETH to Coinbase.

This is not the first time SlowMist has surfaced losses in this range. The firm has previously flagged a reported $86K UNCX token loss linked to a VestingManager flaw, and a 5.08 ETH loss from a calculation issue in Set Protocol's actualizeFee function. The pattern reflects a broader monitoring posture the firm maintains across multiple protocols and wallet types.

Why the smart wallet framing matters for security

Argent-style smart wallets differ from conventional externally owned accounts (EOAs) in that they run on programmable smart contracts rather than a single private key. This means the wallet's behavior, permissions, and upgrade paths are defined in code that can interact with other on-chain contracts, guardians, and recovery modules.

That programmability is also the source of potential exposure. A smart wallet's security profile depends on the specific implementation, the permissions granted to connected applications, and whether any integrated modules have been audited and kept current. A misconfigured module, an unaudited integration, or an overly permissive approval can each create a vector for loss even when the underlying wallet product itself is sound.

The SlowMist report does not establish that Argent's own software was compromised. The "Argent-style" label refers to a wallet architecture, not necessarily a product failure by Argent itself. Similar design patterns are used by other smart account implementations, so the framing describes a class of wallet rather than a single vendor.

SlowMist has previously documented how smart contract wallet integrations can introduce unexpected risk surfaces, including a case where a FlashLoopAdapter flaw drained collateral from a Safe-based multisig wallet. That incident showed how a peripheral adapter, rather than the core wallet contract, can become the weakest link in a complex system.

What remains unknown and what users can do

The current report leaves several material questions unanswered. The incident mechanism has not been disclosed, meaning it is not known whether the loss stemmed from a smart contract bug, a compromised guardian key, a malicious approval, a phishing interaction, or some other vector. The affected network, the specific asset lost, the number of users impacted, and any remediation steps underway are also not confirmed in the available report.

Users operating smart wallets with complex permission sets or multiple connected applications should treat this as a prompt to audit their own configurations, rather than a reason to take irreversible action. Reviewing which addresses hold guardian or recovery roles, checking which decentralized applications (dApps) have active token approvals, and revoking permissions that are no longer in use are low-risk, reversible steps that reduce attack surface regardless of this specific incident.

Anyone who believes they may have been affected should rely on official communications from SlowMist or the wallet provider, not on unsolicited messages, social media accounts, or recovery services. Scams that impersonate support teams routinely follow public disclosures of wallet losses, and engaging with them tends to compound rather than recover any damage.

SlowMist has not indicated whether it expects to publish a full post-mortem or whether additional funds remain at risk. Users should monitor the firm's official X account and website for any follow-up disclosure before drawing conclusions about what the $59.8K loss means for smart wallet security more broadly.
