Patrick Witt, who recently served as executive director of the White House Crypto Council, has confirmed his departure from the Biden administration and announced plans to shift his focus to the private sector, with an ongoing commitment to supporting technological innovation in the United States.

Witt addressed his exit through a detailed statement on X, describing his two-year tenure with the administration as the “privilege of a lifetime.” He extended praise to several high-level colleagues and voiced optimism about the future of the US crypto industry.

“It’s been the privilege of a lifetime to serve in this administration. I’ve been the luckiest guy in the world for the last 2 years,” he stated, summarizing his experience.

“I’m so grateful to have played a role in unleashing American innovation while in government, and I’m looking forward to continuing that mission in the private sector.”

Witt did not disclose the specific nature of his upcoming role, indicating he will reveal further details about his next professional steps soon.

Leadership transitions and policy achievements

Witt highlighted several crypto-focused policy initiatives during his tenure, including the passage of the GENIUS Act and ongoing progress on the CLARITY Act. These legislative efforts are part of the administration’s broader attempt to strengthen the United States’ position in digital assets and blockchain technology.

He thanked David Sacks, noted entrepreneur and former White House AI and crypto czar, for his leadership and guidance throughout Witt’s public service.

Witt also expressed gratitude to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, CFTC Chairman Brian Quintenz, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, as well as various lawmakers, for their role in shaping recent digital assets legislation.

“With regulators and elected officials like you, I feel at ease knowing that the future for digital asset innovation in America is very bright,” Witt noted in his post.

He emphasized that while his government service has ended, his broader objective of advancing US innovation remains unchanged.

Mini dictionary: GENIUS Act, a legislative initiative aimed at fostering blockchain and crypto technology research and development in the United States.
Timing and legislative setbacks

Witt’s departure comes at a challenging moment for crypto policy within the administration. The CLARITY Act, designed to provide comprehensive federal oversight of digital assets, recently failed to pass in the Senate, complicating ongoing efforts to establish clear regulations in the space.

According to Witt, continued perseverance from both public and private sectors is essential for realizing Donald Trump’s vision of the United States as a leading global hub for cryptocurrency.
