Starknet (STRK) was one of the fastest-rising altcoins in the cryptocurrency market. With strong buying, the STRK price surpassed the $0.10 level, reaching as high as $0.1022 during the day. The altcoin’s value increased by 55.69% in the last 24 hours, marking its highest level since 2026.
The key development behind the rise was the possibility of Starknet evolving from a Layer-2 network running on Ethereum into an independent Layer-1 blockchain. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson argued that Starknet needed to control its own security architecture to address potential security risks arising from quantum computing.
According to Ben-Sasson, Ethereum’s goal of transitioning to a fully quantum-resistant structure is the end of 2029. However, Starknet’s transformation into an independent Layer-1 network could allow the project to achieve this transition without waiting for Ethereum, reaching full quantum resistance in 2027.
StarkWare’s description of the independent Layer-1 model as “the clearest path forward” for Starknet has led the market to price this possibility more strongly. However, there is no official governance proposal, finalized decision, or transition timeline yet. Starknet’s statement specifically added that this is not a decision, but an option being discussed publicly.

In addition to the Layer-1 controversy, the technical breakout and increased trading volume also accelerated the rise. STRK’s 24-hour trading volume exceeded $550 million, while the altcoin’s market capitalization reached approximately $758 million. The fact that the trading volume approached the market capitalization indicated an unusually high level of trading activity on STRK.
