Canary Capital has amended its SEC filing for the Canary Pepe ETF, and Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas reads the move as a sign that crypto winter is over.

PEPE itself trades at $0.000004253, down 6.79% in 24 hours. This Pepe ETF update shows ambition, not approval.

The trust was registered in January, and the first S-1 followed on April 8. The amendment is a full updated prospectus. Key details now in place:

Filing: Pre-Effective Amendment No. 1, dated October 2

Venue: Cboe BZX Exchange

Structure: spot trust holding PEPE, with 10,000-share baskets

Pricing: 60-minute New York benchmark rate from an index provider

Custody: BitGo for PEPE, U.S. Bank for cash

Still blank: ticker and seed capital details

Amendments like this refine terms and move the product closer to review. They do not signal approval. For the Canary Pepe ETF, the hard part, the SEC review itself, is still ahead.

Balchunas added that a Pepe fund would have been unthinkable a few months ago. The memecoin ETF market so far is thinner than the optimism suggests. Canary has also filed for MOG and PENGU products, so this is part of a wider memecoin ETF list.

Bitwise is liquidating its Dogecoin ETF, with final trading expected October 14

That fund held about $688,000 in net assets in early September

All Dogecoin ETFs drew roughly $318,000 in net inflows in August

REX-Osprey: TRUMP and BONK

Dogecoin is the only memecoin with live US funds, according to market data (SoSoValue). Demand there has been weak, a hard precedent for the Canary Pepe ETF.

Pepe ETF Launch Outlook: Approval Steps and Risks Before Any Trading

No Pepe ETF launch date exists. The prospectus says shares would be offered after the filing becomes effective. Next steps include:

SEC comments or further amendments

A possible rule-change from Cboe BZX

A final ticker and funded seed capital

SEC reviews can run for months. The filing also calls PEPE a high-risk asset driven by online sentiment, with no real utility. Ownership is concentrated, as the ten largest wallets held about 41% of supply in January.

Price: $0.000004253 (down 6.79% in 24 hours)

Market cap: $1.76 billion

24-hour volume: $351.15 million

Holders: 615.05 thousand

No single trigger explains the drop. Pepe coin news today points to a softer crypto market as US payroll data on Friday showed 29,000 new jobs against a forecast near 90,000, with unemployment at 4.2%.
The BTC price spiked toward $87,000, then slipped back. The next test is CPI data on October 14.
The Canary Pepe ETF now depends on SEC comments, an exchange rule filing and, in the end, real buyers. Dogecoin's record shows that a listing does not guarantee demand. Pepe crypto news from here will turn on the next amendment and on the CPI data.
