Satoshi Nakamoto remains the richest person <a href="https://www.thestreet.com/crypto/markets/10-biggest-bitcoin-holders-in-the-world-right-now-from-satoshi-to-u-s-government" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">in crypto</a>,&nbsp;holding an on-chain fortune of $92 billion, according to <a href="https://info.arkm.com/research/the-10-richest-crypto-holders-individuals-2026" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">data</a> published by Arkham Intelligence.
The Bitcoin creator's wealth sits in roughly 22,000 wallets and would rank among the top 30 richest people on earth by Bloomberg's billionaire index.
Tron founder Justin Sun follows in second place with an on-chain net worth near $2.2 billion, though Arkham separately estimates his broader fortune at $5 billion to $7 billion.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin ranks fifth at $629 million, most of it in ETH accumulated since the network's 2015 launch.

<h2 id="the-lost-fortunes">The lost fortunes</h2>
Not every crypto fortune ends on a yacht. Some end in a lost password. Estonian banker Rain Lohmus holds $684 million in ETH from Ethereum's 2014 sale but has lost the private keys. Programmer Stefan Thomas has just two password guesses left to unlock $590 million <a href="https://www.thestreet.com/crypto/markets/michael-saylor-says-bitcoin-is-in-a-gold-rush-with-a-120-trillion-opportunity" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">in Bitcoin</a>.
Others end in a landfill or in missing fishing rod case. Welsh IT worker James Howells, worth $675 million, famously threw away a hard drive now buried in a landfill.
Irish cannabis dealer Clifton Collins built a $338 million Bitcoin stash in 2011-2012, but hid the keys in a fishing rod case that was discarded after his 2017 arrest. Ireland's Criminal Assets Bureau has <a href="https://www.thestreet.com/crypto/markets/drug-lords-missing-bitcoin-suddenly-moves-after-years" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">since accessed</a> some of his wallets.
