Ripple's USD-pegged stablecoin RLUSD has crossed a new all-time high in circulating supply, with on-chain data from DeFiLlama recording more than $2.52 billion in circulation, up from roughly $2.43 billion just one week prior. Despite the milestone, RLUSD remains the eighth-largest stablecoin by supply, a position that highlights how much ground it still needs to cover against entrenched dollar-pegged competitors.

Ripple's Stablecoin Sets a New All-Time High in Circulating Supply

For a stablecoin, an all-time high in circulating supply is a fundamentally different signal than a price ATH. It measures adoption and net issuance: more RLUSD in circulation means more capital has been minted against Ripple's reserves and deployed into wallets, exchanges, or DeFi protocols. The week-over-week expansion from $2.43B to $2.52B represents roughly $94.5 million in net new issuance across seven days.
Ripple's own transparency disclosure, dated September 24, 2026, reported $2,409.0M in total circulating RLUSD alongside $2,531.5M in reserve funds held on its behalf. That reserve figure exceeds the stated circulating supply by $122.5 million, a structural overcollateralization that Ripple attributes to cash and cash-equivalent assets segregated for redemption purposes.
Monthly CPA attestations, described on Ripple's transparency page, validate both the circulating supply and the assets backing RLUSD. Ripple noted that "these attestations validate the circulating supply and assets backing RLUSD," framing the program as an ongoing compliance posture rather than a one-time audit event. The issuer, Standard Custody and Trust Company, holds a limited-purpose trust charter from the New York Department of Financial Services, giving RLUSD a regulated issuance structure within U.S. state law.

The live supply captured by DeFiLlama also reveals a meaningful chain split: approximately $1.396B of RLUSD sits on Ethereum, while $1.125B resides on the XRP Ledger. Ethereum's larger share suggests that a significant portion of RLUSD demand is being driven by EVM-compatible DeFi applications rather than native XRP Ledger activity, a dynamic worth monitoring as cross-chain liquidity strategies evolve. This growth comes at a time when the broader Ripple ecosystem has attracted renewed capital attention.

Why Eighth Place Still Matters in the Stablecoin Market

Reaching a new supply high while holding the eighth-largest rank illustrates a core tension in stablecoin markets: personal growth trajectories and market-share positioning operate on different timescales. RLUSD's supply has expanded rapidly since its December 2024 NYDFS approval, yet the stablecoin segment is dominated by instruments with years-long distribution moats built into centralized exchanges, DeFi money markets, and institutional settlement rails.

The distinction between a supply ATH and market leadership matters for liquidity depth. An eighth-ranked stablecoin may still face wider spreads on decentralized exchange pairs, lower on-chain liquidity in lending protocols, and less collateral acceptance across DeFi primitives compared to top-tier peers. Supply growth narrows those gaps over time, but not instantaneously. According to unconfirmed reports, RLUSD may have briefly held an eighth-place ranking at the time the supply milestone was first noted; live DeFiLlama data currently places it ninth, suggesting the ranking is fluid and contested at the margins.

For DeFi users, the more actionable signal is the week-over-week net issuance rate and whether that capital is being absorbed into productive on-chain positions. The Ethereum chain concentration of RLUSD supply implies ongoing integration work with EVM lending protocols and AMM pools, which is where ranking improvements are ultimately won. Ripple's expansion into payment infrastructure, including integrations with platforms like Stripe, creates additional distribution vectors that could accelerate supply absorption.

Signals That Could Change the RLUSD Market Narrative

The supply ATH establishes a baseline, but three forward-looking variables will determine whether RLUSD consolidates this growth or stalls. First, whether the on-chain reserve overcollateralization, currently $122.5M above the attested circulating supply per Ripple's stablecoin documentation, holds proportionally as issuance scales. A thinning reserve buffer at larger supply levels would be a risk-management signal worth tracking in future monthly attestations.

Second, the RLUSD Ethereum-versus-XRPL split warrants ongoing monitoring. If Ethereum's share continues to grow relative to XRPL, it suggests demand is being driven by EVM DeFi integrations rather than Ripple's native settlement network, which could affect how RLUSD fits into Ripple's broader payments strategy. The XRP ecosystem's broader market positioning remains intertwined with RLUSD's trajectory. Third, at the federal level, the U.S. payment stablecoin framework established under Public Law 119-27 creates a regulatory backdrop that could either accelerate institutional RLUSD adoption or introduce compliance friction depending on how Standard Custody interprets its obligations under the new federal regime. The GENIUS Act does not independently verify RLUSD's reserve claims, but it does formalize the regulatory category within which RLUSD operates.

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index reading of 71 (Greed) at the time of this milestone reflects a broadly risk-on environment, which historically supports stablecoin issuance growth as traders seek on-chain dollar liquidity for leveraged positions and yield strategies. Whether that macro tailwind persists will influence whether RLUSD's supply expansion continues at its current weekly pace.
