Robinhood announced at its Hood Summit 2026 event that eligible U.S. customers will be able to trade crypto perpetual futures in the coming months, covering eight digital assets and offering up to 10x leverage on Bitcoin and Ether. The company also separately announced planned 24/7 weekend trading for a selected list of U.S. equities, a distinct product that does not involve perpetual futures contracts.

The crypto perpetuals will cover Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano, Chainlink, and Hyperliquid, according to Robinhood's official announcement. Bitcoin and Ether contracts will carry a leverage cap of up to 10x, while the remaining six assets will be limited to up to 3x, a tiered structure that reflects the deeper liquidity in the two largest cryptocurrencies by market cap.
The contracts will be offered by Robinhood Derivatives through Bitstamp at a 0.01% per-trade promotional fee through the end of 2026. Routing through Bitstamp, which Robinhood acquired in 2023, means the derivatives business is being built on regulated exchange infrastructure rather than a new unregulated venue.
CEO Vlad Tenev framed the move as part of a broader push toward professional-grade instruments for retail traders, saying the company is "making Robinhood the best place in the world for active traders by delivering tools once reserved for hedge funds, big banks, and quant firms." The perpetuals announcement extends a derivatives-forward strategy that has also seen leveraged token activity emerge on Robinhood Chain.

What perpetual futures mean for Robinhood traders

Perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track an underlying asset's price without a fixed expiry date, allowing traders to hold positions indefinitely while paying or receiving a periodic funding rate. They differ fundamentally from buying spot cryptocurrency because traders never take direct ownership of the underlying asset.

Leverage amplifies both gains and losses relative to the margin posted. Bloomberg's reporting confirmed that Robinhood's separate weekend equity trading plan routes orders through a venue operated by Bruce Markets, while the crypto perpetuals run through Bitstamp, keeping the two products operationally distinct. Traders should review Robinhood Derivatives' product-specific terms before trading, as access is limited to eligible U.S. customers.

The announcement arrives as the Crypto Fear & Greed Index sits at 71, rated "Greed," a relatively stable sentiment backdrop for a new derivatives product launch.

Where the launch fits in Robinhood's trading platform expansion

Robinhood has pursued aggressive international and product expansion over the past year. The company previously launched crypto trading in the United Kingdom and has been building out its own crypto network infrastructure, with the perpetual futures rollout representing the derivatives layer on top of that foundation.

Social media posts have conflated the two Hood Summit 2026 announcements, claiming Robinhood launched stock perpetual futures. That claim is not supported by the company's official materials; Robinhood announced crypto perpetual futures and a separate planned weekend equities service, which remains pending regulatory review and does not involve perpetual futures contracts.

Product access, eligibility, and exact launch timing should be confirmed directly in Robinhood's official materials as the rollout approaches in the coming months.
