The Chicago-based food manufacturer, known for brands including Slim Jim, Birds Eye, Banquet, and Hunt’s, will release its quarterly figures before the opening bell on September 30.
Analysts are bracing for a difficult reporting period. Street consensus calls for revenue around $2.59 billion, representing approximately a 2% year-over-year contraction.
Per-share earnings are anticipated to come in at 31 cents. This figure would represent a roughly 21% decline compared to the same quarter in the previous fiscal year.
Consumer behavior is shifting toward lower-priced food alternatives in the current environment. This trend is creating headwinds for the company’s revenue growth.

Conagra is contending with elevated expenses spanning raw materials, packaging supplies, and logistics. The company anticipates inflation-related costs will total between 5% and 6% for the full fiscal year.
The opening quarter is expected to absorb a $40 million impact tied to tariff-related expenses. Leadership has also committed to increased investments in marketing and promotional activities.
For the complete fiscal year, operating margins are projected to land between 10% and 10.5%. This represents a significant contraction from the company’s historical average near 16%.
Specifically for the first quarter, adjusted operating margin is anticipated to fall within the high-single-digit percentage range. This would mark a notable decline from the prior year’s 11.8%.
Recently implemented pricing adjustments are not expected to appear on store shelves until the middle of the second quarter. This timing leaves limited opportunity to counterbalance current quarter headwinds.

Analyst sentiment on CAG stock remains predominantly neutral. The consensus rating from 13 analysts breaks down to one Buy recommendation, eight Hold ratings, and four Sell calls.
Barclays analyst Andrew Lazar maintains a Buy stance with a $16 price objective, highlighting the dividend yield as a supporting factor. J.P. Morgan’s Thomas Palmer assigns a Neutral rating alongside a $15 target.
Both RBC Capital and UBS have established $14 price targets. Bank of America and Goldman Sachs carry Sell ratings with identical $13 objectives.
Evercore ISI has set its target at $12.50. Bernstein maintains the Street’s most conservative outlook at $12, emphasizing persistent margin challenges and sluggish grocery category volume expansion.
The mean 12-month price target across all analysts stands at $13.73. This suggests potential downside of approximately 3% from present trading levels.
Earlier in the fiscal year, Conagra reduced its quarterly dividend payment to $0.175 per share. This strategic decision is expected to free approximately $1 billion in capital over a three-year period for manufacturing facility improvements and supply chain infrastructure investments.
Management is also pursuing productivity improvements exceeding 4% of cost of goods sold throughout fiscal 2027. Additional marketing expenditures are being directed toward frozen meal products and meat snack offerings, two segments demonstrating modest volume expansion in recent periods.
Zacks Research currently assigns Conagra a Sell rank, accompanied by an Earnings ESP of +3.22%. Over the past four quarters, the company has exceeded earnings expectations by an average of approximately 5%.
