In Crypto news today centers on a high-stakes Senate showdown.
This Clarity Act news update covers the procedural motion set for September 15, when the U.S. Senate votes on whether to proceed with the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, the country's central crypto market structure bill.
As of September 13, 2026, the vote remains scheduled and unresolved.
Patrick Witt, executive director of the White House Digital Asset Advisory Council, along with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, separately cautioned that both parties in Congress should back the "motion to proceed" on the Clarity Act vote in the Senate.
Their warning was direct: a failed procedural vote could seriously damage U.S. leadership in digital assets and cause the country to miss this legislative window entirely, a warning first detailed inthis breakdown from WuBlockchain, and cited by Forbes.

The Clarity Act, formally known as H.R. 3633, splits regulatory oversight of digital assets between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The Senate motion to proceed was filed by Majority Leader John Thune, teeing up an initial procedural vote almost immediately after lawmakers returned from recess, with the first test set for 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 15.
The bill needs 60 votes to advance. Republicans hold 53 seats, so at least six Democratic senators must cross over, and the latest version already carries 114 Democrat-proposed amendments. You can review the official bill text on govinfo.gov.
Politico reported that despite those amendments, the legislation still carries no public support from any Democratic senator, a gap that leaves passage genuinely uncertain heading into the vote.

Not every voice is cautious. A Coinbase Vice President appeared on national television and said the Clarity Act has the potential to become law this month, adding that everyone spoken with in the Senate seemed on board.
The remarks, which spread quickly among crypto watchers afterAustin Mateski's post on X, have added a note of momentum to what has otherwise been a tense countdown.

Bitcoin traded near $76,717.26 as of this writing, per live data on CoinGecko, as the broader crypto market watches the Senate calendar closely.
No confirmed price reaction to the Clarity Act news has been officially attributed by any exchange or analyst at this stage, and any market movement around September 15 should be treated as developing.

Expert Opinion

Market analysts tracking this crypto news suggest that a failed cloture vote would not necessarily kill the bill outright, but it would likely push any realistic path to passage into 2027, past the November midterms.
Industry observers note that the gap between White House urgency and Democratic hesitation reflects unresolved disputes over ethics provisions and enforcement authority, rather than opposition to market structure clarity itself.
Analysts caution that optimistic statements from individual executives should be weighed against the arithmetic of the Senate floor, where 60 votes remain the hard threshold.
