NES recovery depends on where the tokens are held. For Southeast Asian holders who bought Nesa (NES) on Binance Alpha 2.0 or funded positions through Kraken, the path back to a working token now splits along custody lines, with Binance Alpha reportedly using two snapshots to determine swap and refund eligibility while Kraken migrates its supported NES to a new Ethereum contract.

The distinction matters for the roughly 700 million people across ASEAN who trade on venues like Tokocrypto, Indodax, and Coins.ph. Where your NES sits, on which chain and on which platform, is now the first question that determines whether you qualify for a 1:1 swap, a separate refund, or neither.
Why Token Location Matters for NES Recovery

The recovery framework is not one program but several, keyed to custody. A holder's eligibility depends on whether NES sits on Ethereum or BNB Chain, and on which exchange held it during the incident window. There is no single universal route that automatically covers self-custodied wallets. For related coverage, see Standard Chartered Sees SKY Token Rising Fivefold by End-2028.

Token Location as an Eligibility Factor

Kraken states that NES will migrate 1:1 to a new contract on Ethereum, and that NES funding on BNB Chain will remain disabled going forward, according to the exchange's incident report. That makes chain the first sorting factor: Ethereum NES is supported, BNB Chain NES funding is not. Kraken menyatakan NES akan dimigrasikan dengan rasio 1:1 ke kontrak baru di Ethereum. Pendanaan NES di BNB Chain tetap dinonaktifkan; ke depan Kraken hanya mendukung NES di Ethereum.Sumber: laporan insiden resmi Kraken.
The new Ethereum NES contract is listed as 0x863F08A3d3B14fbD3D42fFD061D0e290F7dBC538, per the same Kraken notice. The exchange published this address; on-chain bytecode and token provenance have not been independently verified here, so ASEAN holders should confirm the contract against official channels before interacting with it.

The general recovery statement, that location determines eligibility, is broader than the specific Binance Alpha mechanism. Kraken's migration is one exchange's response; the Binance Alpha snapshot rules are a separate arrangement with their own conditions, and neither establishes a route for tokens held in private wallets.

How Binance Alpha's Two Snapshots Relate to Swap and Refund Eligibility

Binance Alpha uses two snapshots to determine swap and refund eligibility, according to CryptoSlate's reporting on a linked Binance notice. Binance's own page could not be read directly in this review, so the snapshot details carry secondary attribution rather than independent confirmation.

What the Two Snapshots Determine

CryptoSlate reports that Binance Alpha requires NES holdings before Aug. 24 at 14:51 UTC and an eligible portion still held when trading was suspended on Sept. 5 at 04:00 UTC for a 1:1 swap. In WIB (UTC+7), those points fall on August 24 at 21:51 and September 5 at 11:00. The two snapshots together define which balance qualifies, not a single cutoff.

Swap and Refund Eligibility

Swap and refund are distinct tracks. CryptoSlate reports that NES acquired after the August 24 cutoff is excluded from the 1:1 swap and subject to separate refund treatment, with eligible net purchasers to receive refund details by email within seven business days. A refund-information email is not the same as completed compensation.

The available evidence does not map one snapshot to the swap and the other to the refund, and it does not confirm that any holder receives both or may choose between them. Nesa itself describes NES as the asset used for network consensus, developer and miner compensation, and inference queryspace payments, per its official site, but the homepage carries no incident-specific migration procedure.

Details Needed to Assess NES Recovery Eligibility

The supplied context names the mechanism but not the full rulebook. Several items still require verification before any ASEAN holder can determine a personal outcome, and their absence here does not mean Binance has failed to publish them.

Snapshot Timing and Eligible Holdings

Both snapshot timestamps and the precise rules for holding locations and balances need direct confirmation against Binance's own notice. The title claim of a $286 million exploit loss circulating in one report is not substantiated in that article's body or in Kraken's notice, and should not be treated as an established figure.

Swap and Refund Terms

Allocation terms, processing arrangements, and any applicable claim deadlines remain unverified, without implying a manual claim is required. CryptoSlate reports Binance scheduled NES trading to reopen on September 10 at 08:00 UTC (15:00 WIB), while Kraken scheduled Ethereum NES deposits and withdrawals to resume the same day at 14:00 UTC (21:00 WIB) and marked its incident resolved at 14:12 UTC. A scheduled reopening is not independently verified execution.

Market context frames the stakes without proving causation. NES traded at $0.1460 with a 24-hour decline of 9.2% and a market capitalization near $20.7 million at observation. Broad crypto sentiment sat at 63, or Greed, on the Fear & Greed Index, which measures the wider market rather than NES holder confidence.

For regional platforms, the episode echoes recent reminders that recovery terms are policy, not insurance. As with Blockstream's stance during the Liquid incident and the compensation questions raised in the DBS lawsuit in Singapore, ASEAN exchanges and their users should read exchange-specific notices closely and avoid treating swap or refund arrangements as a legal guarantee. No regulator action or statutory compensation entitlement has been identified in this case.
