What the Update Covers

@Polkadot is rolling out an important update to its Product Devnet, the public developer sandbox it launched to let builders test upcoming network features ahead of a full production release. The update will deploy simultaneously across both mobile and desktop applications, making it a broad, platform-wide change rather than a targeted fix.

The Devnet itself has been a central piece of Polkadot's developer strategy in 2026. The Products Devnet gives builders early access to upcoming network features and risk-free testing without real funds. It was built on Paseo, Polkadot's community-run testnet, and is operated by the Paseo team. The Devnet offers a framework for building web applications that operate within the Polkadot host, enabling developers to experiment with features that extend beyond typical blockchain utilities.

What Developers Need to Do

The incoming update introduces changes to the Devnet environment that require developers to take specific steps to maintain access. Failing to act before the update lands could result in losing access to existing setups.

The required steps are straightforward but important. All developers must back up their recovery phrases first. They should then remove existing application backups, and finally reinstall the application. Completing these steps in order is essential before the update takes effect.

The Devnet is designed to reduce bugs and security vulnerabilities, smooth protocol upgrades, and speed adoption of decentralized applications through realistic simulation and community collaboration. This update appears to be part of that ongoing process, keeping the environment current as the broader Polkadot product stack matures toward a mainnet release.

Developers actively building on the Devnet should act promptly. Missing the migration window before the rollout could disrupt access to the testing environment and any work in progress.
