Plume Network bakes KYC and compliance into the chain by building identity checks, transfer restrictions, and sanctions screening into its core protocol modules instead of leaving each app to build its own rules.
A user who completes identity verification once can carry that verified status across every asset issuer on the network, rather than repeating KYC for each new platform. This approach targets a specific problem: tokenizing real-world assets like treasuries, private credit, or real estate requires legal compliance that most general-purpose blockchains were never built to handle.

What Is Plume Network?

Plume is an EVM-compatible blockchain built specifically for real-world asset finance, often shortened to RWAfi. EVM-compatible means it works with Ethereum's software standards, so developers can move existing tools and applications onto Plume without rewriting them from scratch.
Plume and most market trackers describe it as a Layer 1 blockchain, meaning it runs as its own independent network. However, L2BEAT, a tracker that specializes in verifying rollup architecture, classifies Plume as a modular Layer 2 instead, since it is built on Arbitrum Nitro technology and posts its data to Celestia for availability, technical traits typically associated with Layer 2 or Layer 3 designs.
Plume's mainnet launched in June 2025, and the network uses a consensus model called Proof of Representation, which is designed to strengthen data verification and accountability for asset-backed tokens.

How Does Plume Build Compliance Into the Protocol Layer?

Most blockchains treat compliance as something each project bolts on after the fact, usually through a separate KYC vendor and custom allowlist code. Plume instead splits its compliance work across four built-in modules:

Arc handles asset issuance and tokenization, letting issuers select the KYC and AML checks their specific asset type requires.

Nexus pipes offchain data onto the chain, exposing information like net asset value, audit signatures, and holder counts to any smart contract that needs it.

Passport is Plume's smart account system, which stores verified-credential pointers so a contract can check a user's accreditation, jurisdiction, and sanctions status before settling a trade.

SkyLink, built on LayerZero, distributes RWA yield to more than 18 other blockchain networks.

Because these functions sit at the protocol layer rather than inside each issuer's contract, an institution issuing a tokenized bond does not need to write its own transfer-restriction logic or hire a separate transfer agent to reconcile records.

How Does Identity Verification Work on Plume?

Know Your Customer (KYC) is the standard practice financial firms use to confirm a user's identity, typically through government ID and biometric checks. Know Your Business (KYB) is the equivalent check for companies. On Plume, KYC is not required just to hold or use the network's native token, but individual asset issuers, onramps, and trading platforms can require it for their own users. Once a user passes verification through Passport, that credential works across every issuer that recognizes it, instead of forcing a new check for each asset.
Plume has said it is also exploring newer identity tools such as zero-knowledge proofs and decentralized identifiers, which could let users prove they meet a requirement, like being an accredited investor, without exposing the underlying personal data.

How Does Plume Screen Out Sanctioned Money?

Plume partners with a company called Predicate to enforce sanctions screening at its token bridges, the entry and exit points where assets move between Plume and other blockchains. Predicate maintains a real-time blacklist built from addresses flagged by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and their known counterparties. This screening happens automatically at the smart contract level, blocking flagged wallets from bridging assets in without requiring every user to complete KYC first.

Which Institutions Are Building on Plume's Compliance Layer?

Plume's compliance design has attracted a run of institutional partners rather than only crypto-native projects:

Securitize, backed by BlackRock and Morgan Stanley, is deploying Hamilton Lane funds onto Plume's Nest staking protocol.

Apollo Global deployed $50 million in private credit through a partnership with Grove and Centrifuge.

WisdomTree, which manages more than $100 billion in traditional assets, launched 14 tokenized funds on Plume.

Invesco moved a $6.3 billion senior loan strategy on-chain through Plume's infrastructure.

EY chose Plume to host Nightfall, its Layer 3 privacy protocol for institutional transactions, and Mastercard accepted Plume into its Start Path accelerator.

On August 6, 2026, Plume joined the DTCC's Digital Assets Solutions Industry Working Group alongside Nasdaq and Charles Schwab, providing technical feedback ahead of the DTCC's Tokenization Service, which is scheduled for a full launch in October 2026.

Plume also holds SEC-registered transfer agent status and an Abu Dhabi Global Market license. According to rwa(.)xyz, the tracker Plume itself cites for these figures, the network had about 260,600 RWA holders and roughly $177 million in tokenized asset value (excluding stablecoins) as of August 24, 2026.
The PLUME token currently trades near $0.014, giving the network a market capitalization of roughly $88 million to $89 million on a circulating supply of about 6.4 billion tokens out of a 10 billion maximum supply. That is down roughly 94% from its all-time high of $0.2475, set in March 2025.

Conclusion

Plume Network's compliance system works by embedding identity checks, transfer restrictions, and sanctions screening directly into its protocol through modules like Arc, Passport, Nexus, and its Predicate-powered bridge screening. That structure lets a user's verified identity carry across multiple asset issuers instead of resetting with each new platform, and it has already drawn institutional partners including Apollo Global, WisdomTree, Invesco, Securitize, and a seat on the DTCC's tokenization working group. The token's price has not tracked that institutional growth, but the underlying compliance infrastructure is live and already handling verified transactions today.
