Charles Schwab is pushing its crypto move beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum, telling clients on August 27, 2026 that Schwab Crypto will add Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink in the coming months. The expansion widens the brokerage's spot lineup from two tokens to five and marks its first broadening of digital-asset access since the platform launched.

What Schwab's New Crypto Move Signals

The announcement takes a mainstream, $13.08 trillion-scale brokerage past the two largest crypto assets for the first time. Schwab said clients will be able to buy and sell three additional tokens directly, according to the company's press release. The firm added that more cryptocurrencies and digital assets may be included over time.
Schwab Crypto began rolling out to clients in May 2026 and already offers direct Bitcoin and Ethereum trading. The move fits a firm that has been vocal on digital-asset policy, having urged the US Senate to pass the Crypto Clarity Act.
TLDR KEYPOINTS

Schwab will add Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink to Schwab Crypto in the coming months.

The platform already trades Bitcoin and Ethereum and charges 75 basis points per trade.

Schwab Crypto is unavailable in New York, Louisiana, and US territories.

Why Going Beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum Matters

Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the baseline references for institutional crypto exposure. Adding Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink signals a wider thesis than simple exposure to the two largest tokens, extending a traditional brokerage into higher-beta layer-1 and infrastructure assets.

Schwab Crypto charges 75 basis points on the dollar value of each trade and lets clients view crypto beside traditional holdings across Schwab.com, Schwab Mobile, and thinkorswim. That integration, backed by 48.0 million client accounts, gives the token expansion unusually broad distribution.

The context is a firm running $13.08 trillion in total client assets as of its July 21, 2026 earnings. Broader Wall Street appetite is already visible elsewhere, with JPMorgan boosting its Bitcoin and Ether ETF positions in Q2 filings.

Sentiment sits at a firm footing. Bitcoin traded near $78,223, up about 1% over 24 hours, while the crypto Fear and Greed Index reads 68, in Greed territory. Ethereum, meanwhile, has been grinding back above key levels alongside the broader tape.

What Investors Should Watch Next

The rollout timing is the first open question. Schwab said the three tokens arrive "in the coming months" without a firm date, and cautioned that support for announced assets can still be delayed, modified, or withdrawn for regulatory, market, operational, or risk reasons.

Availability is the second. Schwab Crypto accounts are offered in all US states except New York and Louisiana and are not available in US territories or international jurisdictions. The tokens are offered through Charles Schwab Premier Bank, SSB, are not securities, and carry no FDIC or SIPC protection.

The third watch item is the wider product roadmap. Schwab's April 16, 2026 launch said the platform started with only Bitcoin and Ethereum and promised additional cryptocurrencies plus deposit and withdrawal transfer capabilities over time. Whether transfers and further tokens follow the SOL, AVAX, and LINK additions will define how far Schwab's crypto move ultimately reaches.
