What Happened in the Harmony ONE Hack

The Harmony ONE hack is still unfolding. The project confirmed the exploit on August 12, 2026. Attackers minted fraudulent ONE tokens through a bug in the network.
The team has since paused the bridge, released a patch, and started tracing stolen funds. This report covers official statements from @harmonyprotocol on X, along with live market data.

Official Timeline of the Exploit

On August 12,Harmony first acknowledged the issue following reports of unauthorized ONE token minting. In its first statement, the team confirmed it was working directly with its own staff and appropriate exchanges to stop and freeze the affected funds before they could spread further.
The project also confirmed that a patch and rollback options were already in progress at that early stage, signaling the team had moved into damage-control mode within hours of the exploit surfacing.
The company did not name a root cause publicly at that point and said it would share more details as new information became available. This early, cautious tone set the pattern for the updates that followed over the next 24 hours.

Official Wallet Freeze and Fund Tracing

Later that day, the project published four wallet addresses linked to the exploit. They asked all exchanges to block and freeze any funds tied to these wallets.

By the August 12 update at 10:31 UTC, Harmony said it had traced 10,288 transfers across 409 wallets holding the fraudulently minted tokens. Exchange partners were alerted and blocked several hacker wallets.

Emergency Patch and Bridge Pause

The project paused its official bridge at bridge.harmony.one shortly after the hack was confirmed. Around an hour later, the team released an emergency patch. It urged all validators to upgrade immediately.
The patch stops any further unauthorized minting, though already-minted tokens still need a separate fix.

Validator Upgrade Progress and Rollback Plan

As of the August 12 evening update, 53% of validators had installed the emergency patch within four hours of release. The project called a rollback the most favored solution at that stage.
In the latest post, dated August 13 at 03:26 UTC, the team confirmed alignment talks with validators and exchanges are ongoing. The mint bug fix is active, and Harmony said a full list of exploiter wallets would be released soon.

ONE has slipped further as traders react to the exploit news, now sitting near its 24-hour low. The trading volume of $38.16M against a market cap of just $12.18M shows extremely heavy activity relative to the token's size, a common pattern during exploit-driven sell-offs.
With max supply uncapped, the market is also watching closely for any confirmation on how the rollback could affect circulating supply. Continued price pressure is likely until the project finalizes the rollback plan and reactivates the bridge.

What Comes Next for Harmony

Harmony has not confirmed a final rollback date, and the team has given no fixed timeline for when the network will move ahead with the fix. The complete exploiter wallet list is still pending, and until it's released, the full scope of affected funds remains unclear. Validator upgrade adoption also needs to reach full completion; as of the last update, only about half had installed the patch, leaving the network partly exposed until the rest come online.
The bridge at bridge.harmony.one stays paused, with no confirmed reactivation date either. Given how quickly the situation has moved so far, this Harmony ONE hack story will likely see fresh official updates in the coming days, and the next major milestone to watch for will be the rollback plan's finalization.

Expert Opinion

The rapid patch release and bridge pause show a fast incident response from the Harmony team. However, a rollback carries network-level risks, including disagreements among validators and possible loss of user trust if transaction history changes. Exchange cooperation on wallet freezes has been an important factor limiting further fund movement so far.

Glossary

Minting:Creating new tokens on a blockchain.

Rollback:Reverting a blockchain to a state before a specific event.

Bridge: A tool that lets tokens move between different blockchains.

Validator: A network participant who confirms transactions.

Conclusion

The Harmony ONE hack remains an active situation, with the team working through wallet freezes, a validator patch, and a pending rollback plan.
Most fraudulently minted tokens still sit outside official recovery, leaving exchange cooperation as the key line of defense for now. Until the project finalizes the rollback and confirms full validator adoption, ONE's price and market confidence will likely stay under pressure.
Readers should continue watching official channels for the next update on this developing story.
