The company has scrapped a large CRO treasury venture, ended a Crypto.com ETF servicing agreement and replaced a planned prediction-market integration with a simpler marketing arrangement.

The changes narrow an expansion that once stretched across crypto treasuries, ETFs and prediction markets, just as Trump Media is putting more attention on its core businesses and proposed merger with fusion-energy developer TAE Technologies.

Trump Media Drops Its Biggest Crypto Bet

Trump Media, Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. announced on August 7 that they had terminated the proposed Trump Media Group CRO Strategy business combination, citing market conditions and changing business and stakeholder priorities.

The scale of the original proposal makes the reversal significant.

Announced in 2025, the venture contemplated more than $1 billion of CRO, $200 million in cash, $220 million from mandatory warrant exercises and access to a $5 billion equity line. The resulting public company was supposed to accumulate and stake Cronos.

Interim CEO Kevin McGurn told Axios that the digital-asset treasury market had become saturated and that Trump Media wanted to become more focused. He pointed to competition rather than regulation as the reason for abandoning the venture.

That explanation puts the CRO decision in commercial terms. A crowded treasury market made another large publicly traded crypto accumulation vehicle harder to justify than when the deal was first conceived.

ETF and Prediction-Market Plans Are Changing Too

The CRO venture is not the only Crypto.com arrangement being unwound.

Crypto.com, Trump Media and Yorkville America also ended an agreement under which Crypto.com would have serviced certain anticipated Yorkville America ETFs.

The ETFs themselves have not been cancelled. The companies said Yorkville America’s existing and future ETF plans remain unchanged, meaning the change concerns Crypto.com’s role in servicing them.

Truth Social’s prediction-market plans have also been scaled back.

Instead of directly integrating Crypto.com’s prediction-market infrastructure into Truth Social, the companies will work under a marketing agreement.

The move was not entirely unexpected. In its first-quarter SEC filing, Trump Media said Truth Predict remained under development but was expected primarily to involve marketing and promotional activity with Crypto.com’s OG.com.

The August agreement confirms that the original direct-integration plan has given way to a lighter relationship.

Why Trump Media Is Narrowing Its Crypto Expansion

The three changes involve different businesses, so there is no reason to assume they all stem from one problem.

For the CRO treasury, management has given a clear explanation: competition increased and the market became saturated.

Elsewhere, Trump Media is also taking on a much larger corporate priority. Its proposed merger with TAE Technologies would push the company into fusion energy. The transaction announced in December valued the all-stock deal at more than $6 billion.

McGurn has also emphasized generating more revenue from Truth Social and its data.

Seen against those priorities, abandoning the CRO vehicle and simplifying some Crypto.com partnerships looks less surprising. Trump Media entered several crypto businesses during a period of intense corporate interest in digital assets. It is now deciding which of those projects are still worth pursuing.

What Is Left of Trump Media’s Crypto Strategy?

Quite a bit remains.

Trump Media’s filings have described Bitcoin treasury holdings and Truth.Fi as parts of its broader business, and the August 7 announcements do not terminate those activities.

The company has therefore reduced the scope of its crypto expansion rather than reversed it entirely.

A year ago, the strategy was spreading across several fronts at once. The latest decisions remove the proposed CRO treasury company, change the Crypto.com ETF relationship and leave Truth Predict with a considerably lighter structure.

For investors, the shift is useful because it shows where Trump Media is becoming more selective. Management appears willing to retain digital-asset exposure and crypto-related products while walking away from projects it no longer sees enough reason to pursue.

The next question is whether that smaller crypto footprint becomes a stable part of Trump Media’s business or continues to shrink as the company’s attention moves toward media, data and TAE.
