This latest crypto shutdown news centers on YGG Play, the Web3 game publishing arm of Yield Guild Games, which officially ceased operations on July 31, 2026. Oddly enough, the $YGG token itself moved higher right after the closure was confirmed.

Official Details

This crypto shutdown news was confirmed directly on YGGPlay's own X account: 31 July marks the final day for YGG Play.
The team thanked players, creators, and developers who took part in its games, completed quests, or staked $YGG over the platform's run.
Parent company Yield Guild Games laid out the exact transition schedule in its own official post:

July 9, 3:00 PM SGT: Platform quests concluded for all games, and in-game purchases for LOLandGame and WaifuSweeper were disabled.

July 31: Final day of platform support. The YGG Play website, launchpad, and community questing pages officially retired.

Before July 31: Users were told to manually unstake tokens via the launchpad and redeem remaining in-game points for $YGG rewards ahead of the deadline.

August 1 onward: Two games, GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker, transition to being maintained by delabsOfficial and PlanetariumHQ. Gameplay progress, onchain achievements, and rewards remain safe, with a new reward redemption flow launching alongside the transition.

Why It Happened

According to reporting on the announcement, YGG Play did not disclose the specific reasons for the shutdown. The team expressed gratitude to its community but gave no official breakdown of what drove the decision.

What This Means for Users

Yield Guild Games laid out exactly what users need to do, straight from its official post:

Unstake your tokens: Users are told to manually unstake tokens via the launchpad and directly in-game, well ahead of the deadline.

Redeem in-game points: YGG strongly recommends manually exchanging remaining in-game point balances for $YGG rewards before July 31 to ensure a smooth claim process.

Game continuity: Anyone still playing GIGACHADBAT or Ragnarok Breaker doesn't lose progress. Both games continue under delabsOfficial and planetariumhq starting August 1, with gameplay history, on-chain achievements, and rewards fully intact.

New reward flow: A new reward redemption flow launches at the same time as the game transition, so claiming rewards should continue working without a gap.

This is the part that stands out in this crypto shutdown news story: rather than selling off, $YGG actually gained ground after the closure news spread, alongside a jump in trading volume.
