Tether's USAT stablecoin has launched on Celo, marking the second mainnet deployment for the dollar-backed token and extending the newly introduced U.S. digital dollar to an additional blockchain network.
The rollout was announced by the USAT team, which described the move as an expansion onto Celo with Google Cloud-supported distribution for regulated digital dollars, according to USAT's official announcement. The launch places USAT directly on the Celo network as a live, deployed asset. USAT is Tether's federally regulated, dollar-backed stablecoin positioned as a made-in-America digital dollar, as detailed in Tether's launch statement. The token was introduced as a compliance-focused product for the U.S. market, a positioning covered when Tether launched USAT with key partnerships.

Why a Second Mainnet Deployment Matters for USAT

Landing on Celo means USAT now maintains a multi-chain presence rather than being confined to a single network. A second mainnet deployment signals network expansion, giving the stablecoin broader availability across more than one blockchain environment. For a token that entered the market only recently, adding a second chain is an early step toward wider distribution. The move follows USAT's high-profile debut, which included the appointment of Bo Hines as CEO of the USAT project, underscoring the seriousness of Tether's U.S.-regulated stablecoin push.

How the Celo Launch Fits the Current Stablecoin News Cycle

Stablecoin rollouts are typically measured by distribution and access, and the Celo deployment adds another point of entry within the broader blockchain ecosystem. The USAT announcement specifically ties the launch to Google Cloud-supported distribution on Celo, framing the expansion around infrastructure and reach.
The launch also arrives as Tether continues to build out USAT as a competitor in the regulated dollar space, a rivalry framed when USAT was positioned against Circle's USDC. Placing a compliance-oriented stablecoin on an additional mainnet fits that competitive strategy of broadening where the token can be held and used.
Celo itself operates as a blockchain network oriented toward accessible on-chain payments, per Celo's own documentation. The addition of a regulated digital dollar to that environment extends the network's stablecoin options.
