Shares currently trade at $212.67, representing a 27% decline across the previous seven days and hovering near the annual bottom of $204.44.
The dramatic selloff followed IBM’s preliminary second quarter 2026 financial disclosure, which revealed performance substantially beneath analyst consensus. Total revenues reached $17.2 billion, representing merely a 1% year-over-year advance, compared to Wall Street’s $17.86 billion forecast.
The company’s operating profit per share registered at $2.93, likewise missing analyst projections.
Chief Executive Arvind Krishna addressed shareholders through a letter admitting the organization “misstepped” in responding to abrupt changes in enterprise technology spending patterns. Corporate clients have been reallocating capital expenditures toward artificial intelligence hardware investments, delaying conventional software licensing agreements and mainframe upgrade cycles.
Krishna emphasized that fundamental business segments including Red Hat continue delivering growth, though this reassurance failed to prevent the investor exodus.

Wall Street Response

Stifel preserved its Buy recommendation while dramatically reducing its price objective from $290 down to $235. The research firm indicated uncertainty regarding whether the performance challenges are IBM-specific or reflect broader sector headwinds, particularly since second quarter earnings season has only just commenced.
JPMorgan similarly reduced its price forecast to $250 from a previous higher threshold, while maintaining its Overweight stance. The investment bank highlighted deteriorating mainframe business as a primary concern.
Argus decreased its target to $280 while retaining its Buy recommendation. Oppenheimer took more decisive action, downgrading the stock from Outperform to Perform. Bernstein maintained its Market Perform rating with a $280 objective.
Altogether, nine Wall Street analysts have lowered their earnings forecasts following the preliminary results announcement.
Stifel additionally noted growing market chatter regarding a possible corporate restructuring of IBM. The firm conducted a sum-of-the-parts valuation exercise but concluded such a scenario remains unlikely, with no obvious pathway to unlocking shareholder value in the near term.

Current Valuation Metrics

Notwithstanding the sharp decline, several indicators point to potential undervaluation at present price levels. GuruFocus calculates IBM’s GF Value at $239.23, suggesting the shares trade approximately 11% below intrinsic worth.
The company’s price-to-earnings multiple currently sits at 18.8x, substantially below its five-year median of 25.18x. Its comprehensive GF Score reaches 81 out of 100, featuring robust ratings in profitability (8/10) and valuation (10/10), though financial strength and momentum metrics each score 5/10.
Corporate insiders have conducted no purchases or sales during the preceding three-month period.
Regarding future prospects, Stifel observed that IBM’s third quarter typically represents a seasonally softer period, while the fourth quarter historically demonstrates strength. This pattern suggests definitive evidence of business stabilization may not materialize until the company releases fourth quarter results in January 2027.
The technology firm also recently unveiled three new artificial intelligence-enhanced products for its Power systems portfolio, designed to boost operational performance.
