Trading commenced at $397.59 Monday morning on the New York Stock Exchange for TSMC, continuing downward momentum after Friday’s 7.3% decline in its Taiwan listing. The negative market response seems counterintuitive given the company’s impressive quarterly performance.

Taiwan Semiconductor delivered second-quarter earnings of $4.28 per American Depositary Share against revenue totaling $39.89 billion, achieving a net margin of 50.31% and return on equity reaching 40.88%. Wall Street analysts project full-year earnings per share at $15.83.
Notwithstanding the selloff, <a href="https://coincentral.com/analysts-lift-tsmc-price-targets-after-strong-quarter-the-stock-fell-anyway/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">TSM</a> maintains nearly 50% gains year-to-date, trading substantially above its 52-week low of $223.70. The stock reached its 52-week peak at $479.00.
Chief Financial Officer Wendell Huang indicated the chipmaker is experiencing “strong, multi-year structural demand” for artificial intelligence processors and conveyed optimism regarding the Arizona manufacturing expansion, prompting TSMC to increase its total U.S. capital commitment to $265 billion — representing a $100 billion increase from previous projections.
The initial Arizona fabrication facility has commenced operations, delivering production yields “as good as” those achieved at TSMC’s premier Taiwan location. Equipment installation is imminent for the second facility, construction continues on a third, and preliminary development has started on a fourth. An advanced packaging plant is also scheduled, expanding Arizona’s projected infrastructure to 12 manufacturing and packaging locations plus a research and development center.

Huang addressed the challenges directly. “There are physical constraints — the number of construction workers available, the infrastructure available,” he explained. The company indicated it will collaborate with federal authorities to overcome these limitations.

The Arizona initiative represents a significant political achievement for President Trump, who has advocated aggressively for domestic semiconductor production. Trump has stated the United States will command 50% of worldwide semiconductor manufacturing capacity during his administration.
In Taiwan, <a href="https://coincentral.com/tsmc-tsm-stock-drops-4-despite-earnings-beat-and-265b-u-s-pledge-heres-why/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">TSMC</a> continues constructing 13 cutting-edge and advanced packaging facilities. Huang emphasized that emerging leading-edge manufacturing processes must first achieve stability in Taiwan before international deployment.
Regarding capital structure, Huang mentioned TSMC would “not rule out issuing new bonds” should favorable market conditions emerge, though he disclosed no intentions for equity financing.

The ongoing export control inquiry connected to a TSMC-manufactured chip discovered within a Huawei artificial intelligence processor remains pending. Reuters earlier indicated potential penalties could reach $1 billion or higher. Huang redirected inquiries about this matter to U.S. authorities, recognizing TSMC’s limited oversight once semiconductors enter distribution channels.
Among institutional investors, Dimensional Fund Advisors reduced its TSM holdings by 13.7% during the first quarter, divesting 493,105 shares. Conversely, Van ECK Associates expanded its position by 11.1% while T. Rowe Price increased its stake by 168.6%.
Analyst perspectives remain predominantly bullish. Barclays elevated its price objective to $650 with an “overweight” designation. TD Cowen adjusted its target to $440, maintaining a “hold” recommendation. Zacks and Wall Street Zen both upgraded ratings to “strong buy.” The consensus price target stands at $490.00.
Taiwan Semiconductor also announced an increased quarterly dividend of $1.1136 per share, up from $0.95, scheduled for October 8 distribution.
