Drake staked $1.5 million on Argentina and Lionel Messi to win the World Cup final, according to reporting ahead of the match. The wager was denominated in USDT rather than fiat currency.
The bet did not pay out. Spain beat Argentina in the final, as reported by the Associated Press, handing the country the trophy and voiding Drake's Argentina position.
Match details, including the final scoreline and tournament context, were carried in FIFA's official final report. The result stands as the trigger for the reported loss.
Why a USDT Celebrity Bet Matters to Crypto Audiences

The story lands on crypto desks because the wager was placed in Tether's USDT stablecoin, not dollars. That framing makes a football result directly relevant to digital-asset readers who track how stablecoins are used at the consumer level.

Drake is a recurring figure in this space. He has previously drawn crypto attention through his music, including references to Bitcoin in his lyrics, which repeatedly surface digital assets to a mainstream audience that would not otherwise follow the sector.

Public bets denominated in stablecoins keep those payment rails in the spotlight. A seven-figure USDT position, whether it wins or loses, becomes a visible example of crypto being used for real-world settlement rather than pure speculation.

Social Reaction Following the Reported Loss

The headline framing, delivered as breaking "JUST IN" news, signals a fast-moving and socially amplified item rather than a conventional match recap. High-value celebrity losses tend to spread across both sports and crypto communities.

Drake's betting history amplifies that cycle. His wagers have long generated strong reaction across social platforms, and a reported $1.5 million loss keeps that pattern intact while pulling in crypto-native audiences alongside football fans.

For crypto media, the value here is attention and narrative, not measurable market impact. The event fits alongside other stories where celebrity involvement, such as ongoing debate over how Bitcoin stacks up against traditional assets in 2026, drives mainstream conversation about crypto without moving prices directly.
