Shares of Lucid Group (LCID) experienced severe turbulence on Tuesday following a report by electric-vehicles.com alleging the automaker was exploring either a bankruptcy petition or a transaction to take the company private. Management wasted no time issuing a forceful rebuttal, dismissing the speculation as “completely false.” Despite the denial, shares ended the session down 16% at $4.62 and continued sliding in premarket activity Wednesday to $4.43 — representing an additional 4.1% decline.

The volatility reached extreme levels on Tuesday when LCID touched an intraday bottom of $2.37. Earlier in the same session, the stock had reached a high of $5.76. Such dramatic price oscillation reflects the intensity of market anxiety surrounding the situation.
Heading into Wednesday’s session, Lucid has surrendered 56% of its value year-to-date and approximately 80% over the trailing twelve-month period.

Lucid’s Official Response

Lucid confirmed it has engaged AlixPartners, a firm specializing in restructuring advisory services, to assist with improving operational execution and overall performance. However, management was emphatic: AlixPartners has made no bankruptcy recommendation to either leadership or the board of directors.
According to industry sources, AlixPartners has reportedly advised Lucid to concentrate resources on Gravity SUV manufacturing, reduce emphasis on the Air sedan lineup, prioritize its Uber robotaxi collaboration and the Saudi AMP-2 manufacturing facility, safeguard the Cosmos vehicle launch scheduled for late 2026, and temporarily halt European market expansion efforts.
While Lucid acknowledged the advisory engagement, it firmly rejected any interpretation suggesting the move indicates financial difficulties.

Financial Position and Liquidity

Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Andres Sheppard issued a note Tuesday evening stating Lucid remains “funded well into next year.” He referenced total available liquidity of approximately $3.2 billion as of the March quarter-end, which includes roughly $2.5 billion in unused debt facilities.
This past April, the company successfully secured an additional $1.05 billion in capital — comprised of a $200 million strategic investment from Uber, funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and proceeds from a public equity offering.
Morgan Stanley’s analysis projects Lucid will consume $3.7 billion in cash during 2026, while securing approximately $2.5 billion through debt instruments and $1 billion via equity raises throughout the year. The automaker currently operates with a gross profit margin of -95.6% and maintains a current ratio of 1.02.
Wall Street analysts don’t anticipate Lucid achieving positive free cash flow until 2029, which would require annual vehicle deliveries surpassing 140,000 units. By comparison, Lucid delivered approximately 16,000 vehicles throughout 2025 and is forecast to deliver around 21,000 units in 2026.
Second-quarter deliveries totaled 3,953 vehicles — falling short of the consensus projection of 4,618 units, though representing an increase from 3,309 vehicles delivered in Q2 2025.
Lucid is scheduled to release second-quarter financial results on August 4. The earnings call will mark the first significant public appearance for newly appointed CEO Silvio Napoli, who previously led Schindler Group as Chairman and CEO. Analyst Sheppard notes investors will be particularly focused on hearing Napoli’s strategy for accelerating the company’s trajectory toward profitability.
Morgan Stanley maintains its Underweight rating with a $5 price objective. Cantor Fitzgerald and Baird each hold Neutral/Hold ratings with price targets of $8 and $6, respectively.
