Brunson's game-worn jersey from the Finals opener fetched $1,024,000 at Sotheby's, a record for any Knicks collectible and for any jersey sold through NBA Auctions. The sale closed late on Wednesday, Jul. 8, after a 70-bid war. Professional Sports Authenticator photo-matched the shirt to Game 1, a 105-95 win in San Antonio in which Brunson scored 30 points.
Fifteen Knicks jerseys worn or issued for that game brought $1,868,416 in total, and the net from the clinching Game 5 sold for $179,200. Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby each drew $256,000, while Josh Hart's jersey went for $89,600.
Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's head of modern collectibles, called demand "explosive," noting more than 10 bidders per lot against a typical target of two. The result still trails Michael Jordan's 1998 Finals jersey, which sold for $10 million in 2022.

Polymarket And Kalshi Price The LeBron James Question

The larger money sits on prediction markets, not in the auction room.
Kalshi has drawn more than $76 million in trading on LeBron James' next team, making it the platform's fourth-largest market by volume. That single question has pulled more activity than the 2026 World Series, 2027 NBA Finals and 2027 Super Bowl markets combined.
Polymarket and Kalshi both rank among the largest crypto-native prediction venues, and combined volume on the James question has topped $84 million. Polymarket settles its contracts in the stablecoin USDC(USDC). New York trades at 2% or below on that book, far behind Cleveland, Golden State and Miami.
Rich Paul, James' agent, moved those markets himself. On Jul. 3 he walked through 10 realistic destinations on his podcast, and traders repriced teams that no reporter had linked to his client. Paul added that the Knicks would already have James if they had not won the title, a remark that put New York back in the conversation without making it a plausible destination.
Title odds tell a steadier story. New York sits third at 11% on both platforms to win the 2027 championship, behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs.
James has not decided. His agent offered no update on Jul. 10, saying his client is taking his time and evaluating things.

Knicks AI Backlash Tests Sports Media

The AI story around this title run is real, but it is not the one circulating in some recaps.
ESPN pulled AI-animated "moving portraits" of retired players from its Finals broadcast after Game 1 drew heavy criticism. Viewers flagged a distorted rendering of Tony Parker, along with odd sequences involving Kobe Bryant, Hakeem Olajuwon and Bill Russell. The network called the graphics an experiment, then dropped them for the rest of the series.
A second episode followed the clinching game.
The SportsCenter account posted an AI-generated celebration video featuring a helicopter shot of a fake Manhattan skyline, and fans attacked it within hours.
One widely repeated claim does not hold up. Hart did write "IT WAS AI" about a viral clip involving Brunson, but he posted that on Dec. 17, 2025, after the NBA Cup final, and the footage was authentic. He was deflecting a joke, not flagging a deepfake.
The championship itself remains the reason any of this trades at all. New York beat San Antonio in five games for its first title since 1973, ending a 53-year drought and producing the highest Finals ratings since 1998.
Brunson scored 45 points in the Game 5 clincher and won Finals MVP, and a collector paid $312,000 for one of his rookie cards the following day.
