Hedera Network Exploited: $5.25 Million Real or Not?

A fresh security alert claims Hedera Network has been hit by an exploit worth millions — but here's the twist: it hasn't said a word about it yet. Let's dig into what's actually being claimed.

First of all, What is Hedera?

Hedera is a public network where developers build apps using "hashgraph" technology instead of a regular blockchain. It's known for fast, cheap transactions. Big companies like Google and IBM sit on its council. Its token is HBAR.

What happened?

Security firm X Account PeckShield flagged an alert, crediting analyst Specter, claiming the network was exploited:

About $5.25 million was bridged off the network to Ethereum.

The attacker's wallet was first funded with 1 ETH from Tornado Cash, a tool often used to hide fund sources.

The wallet now holds around 2,360 ETH (~$4.25M) and 15.58 WBTC (~$1M)

How did it happen?
The alert doesn't explain the technique yet. We don't know if this is a smart contract bug, a bridge flaw, or something else. We'll update once more details come out.
What has Hedera done?
Nothing official yet. No post on its blog or X account confirming the hack, pausing the network, or reassuring users. This silence could mean they're still checking, or the claim needs more proof.

The volume spike and price dip line up with when this claim started spreading. CoinMarketCap is even asking "Why is HBAR's price down today?" on its own page. This doesn't confirm the hack, but it's worth watching closely.
Bottom line
A serious claim is going around, but it's not officially confirmed. Treat this as developing news, not a fact. We'll update as soon as Hedera or other trusted sources say more.
The network isn't a stranger to this either. Back in March 2023, the network confirmed itsfirst-ever exploit, losing about $600K when attackers hit its smart contract layer. That time, Hedera responded within hours and patched the bug fast.
