South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has announced a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals for Siacoin (SC) to facilitate a scheduled network upgrade. The halt will take effect at 3:00 a.m. UTC on July 7, 2026.

Timeline and Scope of the Suspension

According to Bithumb’s official notice, the suspension applies to all SC deposit and withdrawal services on its platform. The exchange has not specified an exact resumption time but stated that services will be restored once the network upgrade is confirmed as stable and complete. Users are advised to finalize any pending SC transactions before the cutoff time to avoid delays.

Why the Upgrade Matters

Siacoin, the native token of the Sia decentralized cloud storage platform, undergoes periodic network upgrades to improve scalability, security, and functionality. While Bithumb has not released specific details of this upgrade, such updates typically involve protocol changes that require exchanges to adjust their backend infrastructure. For traders, this means temporary illiquidity for SC on one of the largest Korean exchanges, which could affect short-term price action or arbitrage opportunities.

Impact on Traders and Users

The suspension is a standard precautionary measure during network upgrades to prevent transaction errors or loss of funds. Users holding SC on Bithumb will still be able to see their balances and place trades if the exchange keeps spot trading active, but they will not be able to move tokens on or off the platform. Those who need to transfer SC for staking, storage, or other purposes should do so before the deadline. The disruption is expected to last for several hours to a day, depending on the upgrade’s complexity.

Conclusion

Bithumb’s temporary halt of Siacoin services is a routine but important event for SC holders on the platform. The exchange’s decision to support the network upgrade reflects standard industry practice aimed at maintaining security and reliability. Users should monitor Bithumb’s official announcements for updates on service restoration and plan their transactions accordingly.
