In July 2026, the Japanese company Metaplanet made headlines again by acquiring 2,823 BTC at an average price of 12.71 million yen (≈ 78,850 $), thus bringing its reserves to 43,000 BTC, or 4.1 billion dollars. A performance that makes the company one of the largest corporate holders of bitcoin worldwide. But this accumulation is not a gamble. Indeed, Metaplanet relies on a dual strategy: massive purchases and revenue generation through covered options.

This brings its average acquisition cost to 12.093 million yen per BTC (about 75,000 $). The result? The company keeps smiling despite Bitcoin’s 31% drop in 2026, with a 3.5% rise in its shares after the announcement. The risk, however, is huge. With BTC still volatile, Metaplanet is betting on a market rise for its future.

Japan vs United States: Can Metaplanet compete with Strategy?

The enterprise Bitcoin war now pits two giants against each other, Metaplanet in Japan, and Strategy in the United States. The former is accelerating its purchases, while the latter, led by Michael Saylor, has changed its strategy to prioritize dividends and cash. Strategy remains the undisputed king with over 200,000 BTC, but Metaplanet shows unmatched aggressiveness with its 43,000 BTC. Japan is playing an offensive strategy, the United States prefers to take precautions.

However, the US authorities (SEC) are closely monitoring Strategy’s movements, while Metaplanet, based in Japan, benefits from a less restrictive environment. Advantage or trap? If bitcoin bounces back, Metaplanet could well become the new benchmark. But if the market collapses, this extreme concentration in BTC could prove disastrous. One thing is certain: this East-West battle changes the game.

Metaplanet and MicroStrategy embody two different visions of bitcoin (BTC). Japanese boldness versus American caution. Who is right? We will see. And you, would you rather bet on attack or defense?

After acquiring 2,823 BTC recently, Metaplanet now has more than 43,000 BTC
