OKX founder Star Xu has rejected Changpeng Zhao‘s claim that jealousy is driving their public dispute, saying the disagreement stems from years of unresolved issues and concerns about Binance’s past business practices.
Xu highlighted in his latest post on X that he does not envy Zhao or Binance despite the accusation made during a recent interview. Instead, Xu said he feels ashamed of Zhao’s conduct and pointed to previous legal troubles, compliance issues, and market controversies involving the Binance founder.
His response follows Zhao’s suggestion that Xu’s repeated criticism of Binance reflects personal resentment rather than genuine concerns. However, Xu insisted that the disagreement has always centered on events that predate Binance’s rise into the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. Moreover, Xu argued that the latest exchange should not be viewed as a new conflict because the issues between the two founders have remained unresolved for years.

Xu Points to Earlier Disputes and Book Claims

According to Xu, the origins of the disagreement date back to Zhao’s earlier involvement with OKCoin. He said several incidents from that period were never properly addressed, leaving lasting tensions between the two executives.

Additionally, Xu accused Zhao of presenting misleading accounts in his recently published book. He claimed that Zhao mentioned him several times while describing events that did not accurately reflect what happened. Xu argued that those references created a false narrative about their professional relationship.
Besides criticizing the book, Xu stated that he has no interest in reopening old disputes for personal reasons. Nevertheless, he added that he is prepared to discuss the matter publicly if necessary to correct what he believes are inaccurate claims.
Meanwhile, the exchange has reignited discussion across the cryptocurrency industry. Many community members have continued debating what originally caused the relationship between the two founders to deteriorate. Xu’s latest remarks have added another layer to a dispute that has repeatedly surfaced over the years.
Furthermore, Binance’s recent regulatory setback in Europe has placed additional attention on the disagreement. The exchange recently failed to obtain a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation license, prompting renewed criticism from Xu regarding Binance’s operating standards. Although the licensing issue brought the debate back into public view, Xu maintained that his concerns extend far beyond recent regulatory developments.
Both founders have continued to defend their positions through interviews and social media statements. Consequently, the public disagreement shows little sign of ending as each side continues presenting its version of past events.

Conclusion

Xu maintained that his criticism of Zhao is not motivated by jealousy. Instead, he said, longstanding disagreements, disputed historical accounts, and concerns over Binance’s past conduct remain at the center of their ongoing public feud.
