South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has announced a temporary suspension of deposit and withdrawal services for 28 tokens built on the Base (BASE) network. The scheduled maintenance is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. UTC on June 25, 2025, as the exchange supports an upgrade to the underlying blockchain infrastructure.

Affected Tokens and Timeline

The suspension will impact a broad range of tokens, including well-known projects such as Aerodrome Finance (AERO), Brett (BRETT), Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL), and Kaito (KAITO). The full list of 28 affected assets spans decentralized finance (DeFi), artificial intelligence, and infrastructure tokens. Users are advised to complete any pending transactions before the cutoff time to avoid delays.

Bithumb has not specified the exact duration of the suspension, but such upgrades typically last several hours. The exchange will likely announce the resumption of services once the network upgrade is verified as stable.

Why This Matters to Traders

Network upgrades are routine maintenance events that improve security, scalability, or functionality. However, for active traders, the temporary halt means they cannot move funds in or out of these tokens during the window. This can affect arbitrage strategies, liquidity provision, and time-sensitive trades. Users holding positions in any of the 28 tokens should plan accordingly.

The Base network, developed by Coinbase, has grown rapidly as a layer-2 solution for Ethereum, attracting a wide range of projects. Bithumb’s support for these tokens reflects the exchange’s commitment to offering diverse assets, but also highlights the operational dependencies between centralized exchanges and underlying blockchain networks.

Broader Context

This is not the first time Bithumb has coordinated a network upgrade suspension. The exchange routinely follows similar procedures for major blockchain updates. The decision to suspend all 28 tokens simultaneously suggests a coordinated upgrade on the Base network itself, rather than individual token contract changes.

For the broader crypto market, such events are reminders of the operational risks inherent in centralized exchange custody. Users are encouraged to monitor official Bithumb announcements for updates on service resumption.

Conclusion

Bithumb’s temporary suspension of 28 Base network tokens is a standard operational procedure to support a network upgrade. While the halt is expected to be brief, traders should take note of the June 25 deadline and plan their transactions accordingly. The move underscores the importance of staying informed about exchange maintenance schedules to avoid inconvenience.

FAQs
