An address believed to be connected to the recent exploit of the Humanity (H) project has moved 130 ETH — valued at approximately $220,000 — swapping the funds for 381 BNB, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. The transaction marks the first notable movement of stolen assets since the incident came to light, and it has drawn renewed attention to the security breach that shook the project’s community.

Background of the Exploit

The Humanity team disclosed that the exploit stemmed from a private key leak, which allowed an unauthorized actor to mint 447 million H tokens. The breach was traced back to a developer’s infected device, according to an internal investigation. The unauthorized minting and subsequent token dump caused significant market disruption, leading to a sharp decline in the token’s value and widespread concern among holders.

Recovery Plan and Token Migration

In response, the Humanity team announced a comprehensive recovery plan. The strategy involves permanently burning all existing H tokens on Ethereum, BNB Chain (BSC), and the Humanity mainnet. A new Ethereum-based ERC-20 H token will be issued and airdropped to eligible holders at a 1:1 ratio. This migration is intended to reset the token supply and restore trust in the project.

Forensic Investigation and Bounty

A forensic investigation is currently underway to trace the attacker’s identity and method of entry. The team has also offered a $1 million bounty for information leading to the recovery of funds or the identification of the perpetrator. This is a standard but significant step in the crypto security space, often used to incentivize ethical hackers and blockchain analysts to assist in investigations.

Why This Matters to Crypto Users

This incident underscores the persistent risks associated with private key management and the importance of rigorous security protocols for development teams. For token holders, the recovery plan offers a path to reclaim value, but it also highlights the fragility of trust in projects where security lapses occur. The movement of stolen funds to BNB may indicate an attempt to obfuscate the trail, a tactic commonly seen in crypto heists. The success of the recovery plan will depend on the team’s ability to execute the migration smoothly and the community’s willingness to participate.

Conclusion

The Humanity exploit serves as a cautionary tale for the broader crypto ecosystem. While the team’s response has been proactive, the incident reveals how a single compromised device can jeopardize an entire project. The upcoming token migration and bounty program will be critical in determining whether the project can rebuild its reputation and recover from this setback. Investors and users are advised to stay informed through official channels and exercise caution with project communications.
