South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has announced a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals for Zilliqa (ZIL) in preparation for an upcoming network upgrade. The halt is scheduled to take effect at 6:00 a.m. UTC on June 16.

Details of the Suspension

According to an official notice from Bithumb, the suspension is a standard procedure to support and ensure the stability of the Zilliqa blockchain during its upgrade. Users will be unable to deposit or withdraw ZIL tokens during the maintenance window. The exchange has not yet specified the exact duration of the suspension, advising users to monitor further announcements for the resumption of services.

Why This Matters for ZIL Holders

Network upgrades are a routine but critical part of blockchain maintenance, often introducing new features, security patches, or performance improvements. For traders and holders using Bithumb, this temporary halt means no ZIL transactions can be processed through the exchange during the period. Users who need to move funds for trading or storage purposes should plan accordingly before the deadline.

Impact on Trading Activity

While the suspension is limited to deposits and withdrawals, ZIL spot trading on Bithumb may continue as usual, depending on the exchange’s policies during the maintenance. However, liquidity could be affected if users are unable to add or remove funds from their wallets. This type of temporary suspension is common across major exchanges during network upgrades and typically does not indicate any security issue with the exchange or the asset itself.

What Users Should Do

Bithumb recommends that users complete any pending ZIL deposits or withdrawals before the cutoff time. After the suspension begins, transactions may be delayed or fail. The exchange will notify users once the upgrade is complete and normal services resume.

Conclusion

Bithumb’s temporary suspension of ZIL deposits and withdrawals is a routine operational measure to support the Zilliqa network’s upgrade. Users should take note of the June 16 deadline and plan their transactions accordingly to avoid inconvenience. The move reflects standard exchange practices aimed at maintaining network integrity and user asset safety.
