HTX, a cryptocurrency exchange associated with Tron founder Justin Sun, removed USD1, a stablecoin issued by World Liberty Financial (WLFI), from its platform on June 7, 2026. The action followed a freeze of exchange-linked blockchain addresses attributed to WLFI’s sanctions compliance measures.

The delisting occurred after WLFI referenced the UK government’s May 26 designation of Huobi Global S.A. under its sanctions framework. HTX stated that the designation should not apply to its operations and disputed any operational connection.

HTX had suspended four trading pairs—WLFIUSDT, USD1/USDT, BTCUSD1, and ETHUSD1—on June 5 at 13:00 UTC. The exchange formally confirmed the delisting on June 6 and converted remaining user USD1 balances to Tether (USDt) at a 1:1 ratio on June 7.

The affected pairs included Bitcoin and Ethereum markets denominated in USD1. HTX described the freeze as procedurally unjustified and indicated it may pursue legal remedies.

Smart-Contract Freeze and Sanctions Context

WLFI’s token infrastructure includes a guardian address with authority to restrict specific wallet addresses at the smart-contract level. This mechanism allows transfers to be blocked without court orders or prior notification.

After the freeze was applied to addresses linked to HTX, the exchange reported that it could not process withdrawals or facilitate USD1 trading through standard on-chain functions. HTX stated that the freeze was imposed unilaterally following sanctions-related reviews.

The UK government designated Huobi Global S.A. on May 26, 2026, citing reasonable grounds to suspect support for Russia through financial services. HTX has maintained that Huobi Global S.A. is separate from its exchange operations.

WLFI stated on social media that it maintains risk-based sanctions compliance controls but has not publicly detailed which addresses were frozen or the specific compliance criteria used. The company has not issued a direct technical explanation of the enforcement decision.

Legal Dispute and Commercial Impact

HTX’s formal objection focuses on due process and contractual authority rather than the validity of the UK sanctions designation. The exchange argued that the freeze lacked prior communication, sufficient disclosure, or clear legal basis.

The company called on WLFI to reverse the freeze and stated it would act to protect users’ rights, including through potential legal action. The dispute centers on whether a stablecoin issuer can impose address-level restrictions affecting exchange-held funds without regulatory or judicial authorization.

HTX had previously promoted itself as the first exchange to list USD1 and highlighted zero-fee withdrawals for the fully collateralized stablecoin. The delisting introduces operational and reputational considerations as the broader disagreement continues.

The dispute follows earlier tensions between Justin Sun and WLFI, including claims related to frozen tokens and pending litigation in the United States. The escalation now extends beyond individual wallets to exchange-level user balances and trading operations.
