Billions Network

Recent commentary from crypto and tech circles suggests that the very foundations of today’s internet—rooted in traditional financial and digital models—are facing an unprecedented risk of disruption. Evin McMullen of Billions Network explained that as autonomous AI agents replace human-centric semantic search, the long-standing model of converting user attention into revenue is being fundamentally challenged.

The advertising model comes under fire

McMullen argues that media and telecommunications companies see this shift as much more than just a technical upgrade. The core issue, she points out, revolves around how information is discovered online and how users engage with content. Because AI agents do not interact with visual placements, webpage designs, or banner ads in the same way as humans, the current revenue model is at risk of crumbling.

McMullen emphasized that within media and telecom giants, this transformation is perceived as an existential threat. She noted that, unlike humans, AI agents “have no eyes,” making them immune to visual cues placed around web pages as they access information.

At the 2026 Consensus conference in Miami, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson echoed these concerns. He stated that big tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Facebook are wary of an AI agent–driven transformation, recognizing its potential to disrupt their established business models.

Content flow is evolving

According to coverage, the rise of autonomous AI agents means that software can now scan web pages, extract summaries, and keep users engaged within chatbots or automated workflows—instead of redirecting them to the original site. This is said to be upending the longstanding balance between web traffic and ad-generated revenue that has defined the internet for years.

Glossary: An AI agent is a software system that can gather data, make decisions, and initiate actions toward specific goals without human intervention. Unlike standard chatbots, these agents can not only respond to queries but also independently perform tasks.

During Consensus Miami, Cloudflare’s Head of Strategy Stephanie Cohen remarked that non-human (bot) traffic has now overtaken human interaction online. The steady erosion of the internet’s classic commercial model emerged as a key theme at the event.

Accountability emerges as the central issue

McMullen believes the fundamental challenge facing the modern internet is not just the technical level of machine intelligence. Instead, she points to a bigger gap: the lack of programmable accountability. More than 51% of online and on-chain interactions, she noted, are now conducted by anonymous automated bots that operate without clear responsibility.

Billions Network has become home to the world’s third-largest population of on-chain AI agents, surpassed only by Binance and Base. McMullen highlighted that the company’s open-source cryptographic libraries are being utilized by more than 9,000 developers across global public and private institutions.

Corporate adoption is expanding

Billions Network stands out as a technology network focused on building identity, authentication, and security-driven infrastructure. The company’s technology powers platforms including TikTok, HSBC, and DeBank. It is also partnering with India’s Ministry of Labour on national social security programs to secure identity access.

The same infrastructure has been rolled out within the Indian Railways system, safeguarding the digital identities of over 1.2 million employees. This broad adoption signals that the rise of AI agents is impacting not only content platforms, but also essential public and corporate infrastructures.
