The service removes the need for peer-to-peer routes or third-party funding steps that some users relied on before.</p><p>The company also opened access to spot trading across several crypto assets. The company said this includes tax deducted at source requirements for virtual digital asset transactions.</p><p>“We registered with FIU-IND and comply with all Indian taxation law requirements,” Coinbase said in its launch note. The exchange said it plans to serve Indian users for the long term.</p><p>Coinbase secured its FIU registration in March 2025. The company said at the time that the registration allowed it to offer crypto trading services in India under the local compliance framework.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-coinbase-s-return-to-india-unfolds-in-phases-strong"><strong>Coinbase’s return to India unfolds in phases</strong></h2><p>As previously <a href="https://crypto.news/coinbase-reopens-india-access-with-crypto-only-trading/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reported</a> by crypto.news, Coinbase reopened India access in December 2025 with crypto-only trading after a two-year pause. At that time, Indian users could not deposit or withdraw rupees.</p><p>The latest rollout changes that setup. Coinbase now supports direct INR movement through IMPS, while still giving users access to its global exchange and advanced trading tools.</p><p>The earlier return gave users access to crypto transfers, Simple Trade, Advanced Trade, and Coinbase Wallet. The INR launch adds the missing fiat route that Coinbase had planned for 2026.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-india-remains-a-strict-crypto-market-strong"><strong>India remains a strict crypto market</strong></h2><p>India requires crypto exchanges to follow anti-money laundering rules. Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/coinbase-offers-trading-using-indian-rupee-2026-06-01/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reported</a> that the country also applies a 30% tax on crypto gains, while a full crypto rulebook has not yet been set.</p><p>“India has long been one of the most important markets in crypto,” John O’Loghlen, Coinbase’s regional managing director for Asia Pacific, said. He linked the market to developer talent, trading activity, and wider blockchain use.</p><p>The launch gives Coinbase a wider product in India than its earlier crypto-only access.
