X Layer introduced Exchange OS, a new infrastructure upgrade allowing developers and institutions to launch customizable crypto trading markets directly onchain. The EVM-compatible Layer 2 blockchain associated with OKX said the system supports spot, perpetual, and outcome-based markets through a shared infrastructure framework designed to reduce the technical burden developers usually face when building decentralized exchanges from scratch.
According to the official announcement, Exchange OS addresses a growing challenge within onchain finance where many builders still depend heavily on centralized infrastructure because creating advanced trading systems independently requires substantial engineering resources, operational costs, and liquidity management tools. Consequently, X Layer developed a protocol-level framework that moves several core exchange operations directly onto the infrastructure layer, allowing market operators to focus more on creating products instead of repeatedly rebuilding backend trading architecture for every new deployment.

Additionally, the platform integrates exchange functions including matching, settlement, liquidation, risk management, and margining into the protocol itself, creating a standardized environment where developers can launch markets while still configuring specific compliance models, trading structures, and operational controls.
The company also emphasized the importance of unified capital efficiency within Exchange OS, explaining that traders will access spot, perpetual, and outcome-based products through a shared account and margin system capable of supporting multiple market categories simultaneously. Moreover, X Layer stated that the infrastructure can support trading activity tied to sports events, macroeconomic developments, artificial intelligence sectors, and tokenized assets, allowing users to express market views across different structures while using the same liquidity pool.

X Layer confirmed that the first venue operating on Exchange OS infrastructure will launch next month through a simulated prediction market centered around the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament. According to the company, the venue called 2026 World Cup Outcomes will serve as the first live demonstration of the infrastructure, helping the team test how outcome-based markets function under real trading conditions before broader adoption expands across external developers and ecosystem participants.

The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, begins on June 11, 2026, making the event a major global opportunity for testing prediction market engagement and decentralized trading participation around large-scale international competitions. Additionally, X Layer explained that launching its own venue first allows the company to validate system performance internally before opening Exchange OS more broadly through future XIP-Exchange OS governance upgrades and ecosystem integrations.
However, the company noted that the rollout remains gradual as additional features, integrations, and developer participation continue expanding over time through phased deployment plans. In conclusion, X Layer is positioning Exchange OS as a long-term infrastructure layer for decentralized market creation as competition intensifies across the broader onchain trading and prediction market sector.
