The deal puts two more national teams on Chiliz Chain, the sports-focused blockchain that’s been building out its position as the Web3 infrastructure layer for sports and entertainment. For South African and Scottish football fans, the path to direct team engagement just got more concrete.

What This Actually Means for Fans

Fan Tokens give holders a real connection to their team that goes beyond merchandise and ticket purchases.

Through the official Fan Token system, fans can vote on certain team decisions, access exclusive content, join unique experiences, and engage with their national team in ways that weren’t really possible before Web3 infrastructure made it practical.

For Bafana Bafana fans, the launch creates a direct line between the South African national team and the global supporter base. South Africa has a massive football following both domestically and across the diaspora, and a Fan Token gives that audience a way to participate that doesn’t depend on physical proximity to matches.

Scottish fans get the same thing. Scotland’s national team has supporters scattered across the world, and the Fan Token provides a digital point of connection that crosses geographic boundaries.

Why Federations Are Choosing Chiliz

Chiliz has built a track record with major football clubs and federations across multiple continents. The infrastructure isn’t experimental at this point. It’s proven across dozens of major teams including some of the biggest clubs in European football.

National federations choosing Chiliz isn’t a leap of faith. It’s selecting infrastructure that other major federations have already validated.

The sports-specific focus matters. Chiliz Chain is built for sports and entertainment from the ground up.

The tooling, partnerships, and ecosystem already exist for federation-level deployments. Onboarding a national team isn’t starting from zero. It’s plugging into infrastructure that already works.

What Comes Next for Both Teams

The federations will launch their official Fan Tokens through The Chiliz Group, joining a growing list of national teams that have already made the move. Each Fan Token typically launches with specific voting opportunities, exclusive experiences, and community engagement features that get rolled out over time.

For South Africa, the timing is interesting. The national team has been rebuilding its competitive position over recent years, and a digital fan engagement layer arrives at a moment when supporter enthusiasm is rising.

For Scotland, the national team has a passionate global fan base that’s been waiting for a way to engage more directly with the team. Both Fan Tokens land in environments where the supporter community is ready to participate.

The Broader Chiliz Strategy

National federations represent a different category than club partnerships. Clubs have local and regional fan bases. National teams have entire countries behind them, plus diaspora communities and casual supporters worldwide.

Adding South Africa and Scotland expands Chiliz’s national team coverage. It also reinforces the platform’s position as the default Web3 infrastructure for major football federations.

Conclusion

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Scotland’s national team are going onchain with The Chiliz Group.
Football fans across both nations now have a direct path to engage with their national team that doesn’t depend on geography or traditional media access.
