What the Class M License Means for Plume

The Bermuda Monetary Authority oversees digital asset businesses through its Digital Asset Business Act, one of the first comprehensive licensing frameworks specifically designed for crypto and blockchain companies. A Class M license permits the holder to operate specific digital asset services under BMA supervision.
For Plume, the approval represents a shift from operating purely as a decentralized protocol to holding a formal regulatory credential. The company's announcement framed the license as foundational to launching regulated vault products, a structure that would bridge traditional asset management with on-chain infrastructure.
This development comes as several crypto businesses have pursued licensing in jurisdictions with clear digital asset regulations. Companies like WhiteBIT, which recently launched a UK platform with GBP payment rails, have similarly sought regulatory footholds in specific markets to expand their operations.

Bermuda's Role in Digital Asset Regulation

Bermuda established its Digital Asset Business Act in 2018, making it one of the earliest jurisdictions to create a dedicated licensing regime for crypto companies. The BMA maintains a public registry of regulated entities, providing transparency around which firms hold active licenses.
The island's regulatory approach has attracted digital asset firms seeking a jurisdiction that offers both legal clarity and international credibility. Plume's addition to the BMA's regulated roster positions the company alongside other licensed digital asset operators in the territory.
Licensing developments like this one continue to draw attention across the crypto industry as projects weigh the trade-offs between decentralized operations and regulated status. For firms focused on real-world asset tokenization, where traditional finance counterparties expect regulatory compliance, holding a recognized license can be a prerequisite for institutional partnerships.
Plume has not disclosed a specific timeline for launching its regulated vault products following the license approval. Further details are expected on the company's official blog.
