Crypto investors received warnings against phishing schemes targeting inexperienced retail traders.

On Wednesday, fake CoinMarketCap token promotions began circulating across social media platforms. The activity triggered concern across several crypto communities because scammers increasingly exploit trusted industry brands to attract unsuspecting investors.
However, in an official statement on X, Coinmarketcap reminded users that it does not operate any cryptocurrency token or coin, warning that every promotion involving so-called CMC tokens should immediately be treated as fraudulent activity.
The warning quickly spread throughout the crypto market because fake exchange-related tokens have become increasingly common. Besides creating counterfeit tokens, scammers also launch imitation websites and misleading advertisements designed to steal digital assets from retail investors.
CoinMarketCap explained that projects using its branding do not represent the company in any official capacity. Moreover, the platform urged traders to verify investment opportunities carefully before connecting wallets or transferring funds.
The scam alert arrived during a broader increase in impersonation attacks affecting the crypto sector. Fraudsters often target inexperienced traders because recognizable company names create instant credibility within online investment discussions.

CoinMarketCap also addressed impersonation attempts involving scammers pretending to work for the company directly. The platform warned users against trusting suspicious calls, private messages, or customer support claims appearing online.
According to CoinMarketCap, the company does not maintain a customer support phone number and never contacts users through phone calls. Therefore, any unexpected caller claiming affiliation with CoinMarketCap should immediately raise concerns among crypto holders.
Additionally, the company encouraged users to verify suspicious activity through official customer support channels whenever uncertainty appears. The statement aimed to reduce losses linked to phishing operations and fake investment campaigns spreading across social media.
Crypto scams involving exchange branding have expanded significantly throughout recent months. Consequently, several major blockchain companies now issue regular warnings regarding phishing attacks, wallet-draining links, and impersonation schemes targeting retail investors.
CoinMarketCap’s latest warning highlights growing security concerns across the crypto industry as scammers continue exploiting trusted company names. The platform maintains that it has never launched an official cryptocurrency token and never contacts users through phone calls. Consequently, investors must remain cautious before trusting unofficial token promotions or suspicious online communications.
