In a somber turn of events, Joe McCann, the entrepreneur behind the investment firm Asymmetric, is under scrutiny following the untimely death of his fiancée, Ashly Robinson, in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The couple was celebrating both her birthday and their engagement at a high-end resort when tragedy struck.

How Did the Tragedy Unfold?

Robinson, known to her followers as Ashlee Jenae, was found unresponsive in their villa on April 9. Despite swift medical intervention, the 31-year-old social media influencer from Miami could not be revived. Authorities in Zanzibar have initially categorized her tragic end as a suicide, citing a dispute between the couple as a factor.

Staff at the Zuri Zanzibar intervened in disputes between Robinson and McCann on two occasions, placing them in separate rooms. The investigation is still underway, as the medical report awaited will clarify the exact cause. Meanwhile, McCann’s movements are restricted, with his passport temporarily seized and his testimony recorded.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Robinson family and their loved ones. We are cooperating fully with local authorities and the US Embassy,” stated Zuri Zanzibar resort’s management.

What Are The Family’s Concerns?

Robinson’s relatives doubt the suicide ruling, insisting she would not have taken her life. They have used social media platforms to demand a more thorough investigation. A crowdfunding initiative set up by her family to cover travel and unforeseen expenses exceeded its $50,000 goal.

The Zanzibar police have reiterated the investigation’s ongoing nature, maintaining silence towards media queries. The U.S. State Department has also refrained from offering further comments but assures they are monitoring developments closely.

Joe McCann’s Asymmetric Fund is significantly backed by influential figures such as Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon. McCann, boasting a personal net worth of $45 million, recently closed the fund’s Liquid Alpha Fund amidst rumors of financial setbacks.

Since the couple’s arrival in Zanzibar on April 4, and following the harrowing incident, local enforcement continues to keep a close watch on McCann’s presence in the nation.

For now, communication with the Zanzibar police remains elusive, with inquiries from outlets such as CoinDesk not leading to any feedback.

The US State Department emphasized that they could only offer condolences at this stage and are supporting the Robinson family.
