Blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs has raised $70 million in a Series C funding round led by Blockchain Capital, pushing the company’s valuation to $1 billion and cementing its status as one of crypto’s newest unicorns.
The round also saw participation from major traditional financial and investment firms, including Goldman Sachs, Bessemer Venture Partners, Brevan Howard, Thoma Bravo, and Citi Ventures.
Founded in 2018 by Esteban Castaño and Rahul Raina, TRM Labs develops blockchain intelligence software used to track illicit activity across digital asset networks.
The San Francisco–based company provides tools to global law enforcement agencies, regulators, and private-sector firms seeking to manage crypto-related risk and comply with financial crime regulations.
Castaño said the company was built around a contrarian belief that digital assets would be widely adopted for moving money globally, creating an urgent need for intelligence to interpret blockchain data. “We asked ourselves what the second-order consequences would be,” he said, noting that effective risk management would require sophisticated analytics at scale.
TRM Labs entered a competitive market dominated early on by Chainalysis, which had a multi-year head start. However, TRM differentiated itself by tracking multiple blockchains and cryptocurrencies from the outset, rather than focusing narrowly on Bitcoin.
The company also assembled a team with deep government and investigative experience, enabling it to build credibility with public-sector clients worldwide.
As blockchain adoption accelerates through tokenization and the integration of artificial intelligence, TRM Labs expects demand for its services to grow rapidly.
According to Ari Redbord, a former federal prosecutor, the company has seen a 500% surge in AI-enabled scams and fraud. “This is a civilization-level threat,” Redbord said, adding that TRM is scaling its platform to meet emerging risks.
With fresh capital and growing institutional backing, TRM Labs is positioning itself for another phase of rapid expansion as governments and enterprises confront the evolving challenges of crypto-enabled crime.
