In a significant leap for digital productivity, Doist has globally launched Todoist Ramble, a groundbreaking voice-to-tasks AI feature that intelligently transforms unstructured speech into perfectly organized tasks. This innovation, available from March 2025, directly addresses the universal challenge of capturing fleeting ideas and responsibilities while on the move, potentially reducing the friction in personal and professional task management. By leveraging Google’s cutting-edge Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model, Ramble promises a seamless, real-time conversational interface that understands context, deadlines, and priorities, marking a pivotal shift from manual entry to intuitive voice-driven organization.

How Todoist Ramble’s Voice-to-Tasks AI Actually Works

Todoist Ramble represents a sophisticated integration of large language model (LLM) technology within a familiar productivity application. The process begins when a user taps the Ramble icon and starts speaking. Crucially, the audio streams directly to Doist’s backend infrastructure via Google’s Vertex AI platform, where the Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model performs dual functions in real-time. First, it transcribes the spoken words. Subsequently, it parses the transcription to identify discrete tasks, extract mentioned details like dates, projects, durations, and assignees, and then structures this data into actionable items within the Todoist ecosystem.

This real-time processing allows for interactive editing. For example, a user can say, “Remind me to email the Q2 report draft to the team by Friday… actually, make that Thursday afternoon.” The system not only creates the initial task but also processes the subsequent correction, updating the deadline accordingly before the user finishes speaking. The underlying technology distinguishes Ramble from simple voice memos by applying semantic understanding to differentiate between a task description, a due date modifier, and conversational filler.

The Technical Backbone: Privacy and Performance

A critical component of Ramble’s design is its commitment to user privacy and data security. Doist confirms that the audio data is not stored on its servers after processing and is explicitly not used for training AI models. This policy aligns with growing consumer demand for ethical AI. Furthermore, the Todoist platform holds SOC2 Type II certification, an independent audit standard that verifies robust security controls over data. Performance metrics from the beta phase show rapid improvement. Task creation success rates climbed from approximately 40% in October to about 62% by December 2024, indicating significant refinement in the AI’s natural language understanding capabilities during testing.

The Competitive Landscape of AI-Powered Task Capture

The launch of Todoist Ramble occurs within a burgeoning market for AI-assisted productivity. This feature essentially brings capabilities similar to emerging dedicated hardware into a mainstream software application. For instance, Amazon’s experimental Bee device and various smart rings like the Stream ring or Pebble’s Index 01 aim to provide instant, wearable task capture. Similarly, devices from companies like Plaud focus on transcribing meetings and extracting action items.

However, Ramble’s strategy differs fundamentally. Instead of requiring new hardware, it enhances an existing, widely adopted software platform with over 150,000 active beta testers. This approach lowers the adoption barrier, as users can access advanced AI functionality without purchasing additional gadgets. The table below contrasts the key modalities:

This competitive context highlights Ramble’s unique value proposition: delivering cutting-edge, conversational AI task management to millions of existing Todoist users instantly.

User Adoption and Business Impact Insights

Early data from Doist provides compelling evidence of Ramble’s immediate utility and business impact. During its beta period, which involved the company’s dedicated “Todoist Experimental” user group, approximately 76,000 testers completed nearly 290,000 Ramble sessions across desktop and mobile platforms in just three weeks. This high engagement rate signaled strong user interest in voice-based interaction. More significantly, the feature demonstrated a clear effect on conversion. Doist reports that new users on the entry-level Beginner plan upgraded to paid Pro or Business plans at a rate roughly five times higher after using Ramble compared to before its introduction.

This behavioral shift suggests that the AI feature effectively showcases the app’s advanced capabilities, moving users from passive free-tier usage to active, invested productivity. The unlimited Ramble sessions offered on paid plans serve as a powerful incentive for upgrade, creating a sustainable monetization path for AI development. Furthermore, the feature supports an impressive 38 languages at launch, enabling global scalability and accessibility from day one, a critical factor for Google’s helpful content evaluation in 2025.

Integration and Accessibility Features

For optimal convenience, Doist has deeply integrated Ramble into mobile operating systems. iOS users can access it via Home Screen or Lock Screen shortcuts, enabling task capture without fully unlocking their phone. Android users benefit from integration via app shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles. These thoughtful touches reduce the number of steps required to initiate a Ramble session, directly addressing the original problem of friction in capturing tasks on the go. The feature is part of a broader suite called Todoist Assist, positioning it as one component of a comprehensive AI-augmented productivity system.

Conclusion

Todois Ramble’s voice-to-tasks AI feature successfully bridges the gap between spontaneous thought and organized action. By harnessing the power of Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model for real-time speech understanding, it offers a practical, privacy-conscious solution that fits into existing user workflows. The strong beta adoption and positive impact on user upgrades validate its market fit. As AI continues to reshape productivity tools, Ramble establishes a compelling software-based alternative to hardware-centric approaches, making advanced, conversational task management accessible to a broad audience. Its launch signifies a move towards more natural, intuitive interfaces where technology understands context and intent, not just commands.
